Yeah last year I was buzzed by a recruiter about a job in Bend OR. I thought it might be a nice 2-3 year change to go live out there. Then I saw that unless I wanted to live in a trailer park 10 miles out of town I'd need to make about 10% more than my Boston salary to stay even, nevermind the lower salary they were offering. How is it that everyone in a smallish mountain town can afford $800k condos. Then go to VRBO and Airbnb and see about 2000 listings...oh

I watch some local town council meetings and I see that towns push back hard for the local zoning changes. I hear a lot that “the state is trying to control us”. When the new ADU legislation rolled out I hear some are trying to block it from happening. What is this new legislation you speak about going to do?

Yes you "can" find a different supplier but which of them are cheaper than the current RIE rate? Before RIE had a rate hike the only available options were more expensive, after RIE's rate hike they are still more expensive.

I am not sure if they were just that high before the hike, or if they had one of their own. The system for seeking an alternative is in place yes, but the alternatives are not cheaper making the whole thing moot.

Collective action such as this is one of the best ways to get things done but Americans as a whole are terminally poisoned against it.

This is why shit like a 5% pay cut for like trash collectors gets half of Paris in the streets and shutting down a country until its reversed vs here where more horrible things happen all the time and you get downvoted and ridiculed for even suggesting that public protest / collective action even be attempted.

I'd like for things like this to occur but yeah in reality it'll be maybe 100 people round the state actually decide to do it and they just get cut off without any progress made at all.

People keep buying them. In my neighborhood every house was selling quickly, but I can see the houses sitting on the market much longer now. Also people aren’t looking right now. My dad owns a real estate agency and the phones aren’t ringing and they wouldn’t stop a year ago.

Zoning rights should go hand in hand with property rights the government shouldn't be able to tell you what you can and can't do with your own property otherwise you never really own anything your just renting from the government the same argument for property taxes which also happens to be theft.

I also just want to say that the parallel parking portion of the test was quite easy and it was for sure the part I was most worried about. Also I’m not sure if you scheduled the appointment for providence or for Cranston but I did mine at providence and the instructors stand in the parking lot right next to your car and they really help talk you through it all!

I took my test in august and there is a video on YouTube that takes you through the RI road test course and I REALLY recommend watching that. After watching the video a few times I went to a school parking lot after hours that has a bunch of cones in it and just arranged all the cones the exact way it showed in the video and I was able to practice the exact course until I felt comfortable. Truly I think that was the main reason of why I did so good on my road test

Sadly it’s not just RI, we moved from FL last year, sold our house for almost double what we purchased for under two years prior. People will pay so that’s what’s happening, it’ll keep happening too. Our rent is $1,000 more than our mortgage was in FL and our old home was 1000% nicer too. It sucks a lot, I feel like we will never be able to purchase something and not be screwed in the end now.
