Reddit as a whole has this problem. Its an echo chamber for weak minds. How many times a week do you see "control the means of production" or "landlords evil" statements. You really can't have a discussion on most topics here as the people are incapable. They will even inject their political thoughts into non political statements for some reason. And their behavior reflects who they really are as people.

I already stated, we could provide some form of assistance for a person who is unable to pay for bus fare.

Outside of that extremely small minority, most people can pay their own bus fare. Why should the taxpayers pay the bus fare of people who can pay for it themselves?

If you want to pay for other people, do so. There are plenty of charities. Go ahead.

Reply to Solar by jfenim

First off, why? Do you own an electric car? If not your bill should be less than $200 a month making solar pointless. Also why do you feel you need to hire a company? Some basic research on your own and you can contract out the job yourself for a massive savings.

I know you were not asking me, but honestly I used to see it as being aware of the world outside of my own personal experiences. Edit - I found it quite helpful for me to put further context on why something is the way it is, or someone feels the way they feel (even if I disagree with it).

Now it's just used as a negative term and has no real meaning when used, which is unfortunate.

In RI get what you bought. Sure, if you rent an illegal basement apartment your remedy is basically to leave, and that’s worse than a place where the remedy is the landlord gives you more than what you bought, protecting those who may not enter transactions with their eyes wide open.

But ultimately you get exactly what’s on the label, even if it means RI isn’t as good at protecting you from yourself. If the landlord doesn’t provide an essential service, escrow the cost of a new place or your increase in cost for takeout because your stove is busted and withhold from rent. That’s a remedy. So is a 20 day notice to cure if you’d rather leave.

As an adult I prefer contracts be enforced as if both parties were adults, but I admit the steep learning curve can be punishing.
