You move into a place. They say heats included. A year later they raise the rent, heat is no longer included, and split utilities among the apartments based on occupancy. Why? Bc there’s nothing explicitly saying they can’t do that.

Rent jumps from $900 to $1500 (so they can “renovate” lol and then successfully charge that much) to people who don’t know any better trying to save money by leaving Boston. Why again? Not because the landlords costs went up. Not because the people paying $900 were bad tenants, but because the landlord can.

Laundry machines were included in your rent, communal, but still, great, right? Wrong. They never work, they never will work, and your rent will not be reflecting that inconvenience. Why? Because there is nothing saying that’s illegal either.

So you opt to move. Congrats! You get to lose your deposit (because they always take as much of that as they can, right?). And now you get to put a new deposit on another apartment, but that landlord is charging first, last (if your credit score is too low) and security. But wait… that’s illegal in RI! Lol cry about it! No one cares.

These are just some of the things I have seen happen to my neighbors, and people I know within the last year or two. I truly do not know very many people. Tenants in this state get absolutely railed.

Screw it. Hire the most expensive guy you can and make sure he covers every roof you have with solar panels. Good luck.

So start by reporting them to housing and state this is not your first issue. Document it. Don't worry about eviction as its nearly impossible in your case. A stove when I was a landlord I would need to replace within 24 hours. I could put in a temporary until the good one arrived, but a stove had to be there and usable.

Which is why I'm here asking for suggestions from people who have worked with a solar company and had a good experience. Not sure where you're trying to go with this, if you can't answer my question, why are you here?

I have an 8kw system with backup installed. ROI is around 6 years. I used SolPower out of Charlestown. My electric bill has been zero since September and I have enough credit built up that it should stay at zero until the nicer weather is back.

Make sure your roof is less than ~12 years old or have it reshingled.

I have AC, my bill never goes over $130 a month. I even try to heat with the mini splits, but my bill never seems to go up.

So lets talk about your knowledgeable solar guy. Rebates and paperwork to file them are easily found online. Besides his sales pitch what else does he know? Is he a roofer? Doubtful. Is he an electrical engineer. Doubtful. Has he spent any time besides company training on solar energy. Doubtful. Does he have a product you could buy online for a third the cost and have installed yourself? Yes he does. If you hire an actual roofer and electrician they are going to do some wild things for you. Discuss your roof at length and its issues. The electrician is probably going to hide those conduits as he wants the job to look professional.

The point is, if a guy showed up and said he he wanted to sell you a windmill he doesn't build and charge you three times the cost for it to look like hell would you hire him?

Several folks have asked this in the last few months. Search the /r. And it’s totally worth it! Haven’t had an elex bill since 2016.

No problem. Love telling folks about our pretty nice state. Bear in mind that March is not really spring here. It can be nice and sunny or snow and nor'easters. I will hope you get a few of the nice ones.

Also, if you're willing to drive, Beavertail Park in Jamestown is one of my favorite places in RI. If it's warm enough, take a picnic.

Drive defensively! We are crazy drivers.

Is an electric car the only reason that an electric bill would be over $200? I have central air and an inground pool with a heat pump to heat it. As well as electric hot water. And I'd rather have someone who is knowledgeable about this matter as well as rebates. Do you have a contractor suggestion?
