Edit: Expanding on my initial thoughts.

I agree with this. Also, if these New Yorkers had the forethought to take advantage and get out of a densely populated area to avoid exposure, chances are they’d continue to social distance and take precautions while they were here in RI. It’s the people who didn’t take precautions that were the issue, like the RI residents protesting at the statehouse refusing to wear masks and hosting parties just to spite everyone…

However, I have to believe part of the reason we ended up suffering so badly in the late summer and fall of 2020 was because we effectively reopened the state too early and became flooded with tourists from hotspot areas. We were doing really well before that. I recall seeing far more out-of-state plates than usual—not just in Narragansett and Newport, but even Oakland Beach in Warwick was overrun. There were posts about it in this sub at the time, too.

Of course, that’s not the only reason. It also didn’t help that hospital administrators across the state refused to make any adaptations for the second wave that we all knew was coming, but that’s a whole other issue…

The point of my comment was to answer the above question “is anyone saying the tenant didn’t want him in the apartment… you’re allowed to have guests over to you’re apartment.”

You are allowed to have guests. You’re not allowed to have unauthorized occupants. Whether the leaseholder wanted him there is irrelevant.

People followed it for like a month and when you never heard anything about enforcement than people just went back to the status quo.

My favorite was a McDonalds in Lincoln that had a sign on the drive thru window saying straws upon request. The drive thru worker would point at the sign and already had the straw in their hand.

It’s one thing if this type of bill is “a bunch of school kids learning how government works so they meet a state rep and draft a bill and get to testify about how the state dinosaur should be a Triceratops because they are cool” and then we go through the whole schoolhouse rock thing.

But, no children were involved in this process. At least not literal ones.

And I could ask why are you determined to stick up for an illegal gun owner who was residing there illegally and not paying rent? Neither party in this story is innocent.

And the person who rented the apartment moved away, so I'm not sure how you think he's allowed to have guests in a place he no longer lives? Am I allowed to have guests stay at your house? Or all my former apts, just because I once lived there?

I’m kind of guessing here, so pardon me if this doesn’t get you what you want, but try the Providence library to see if they have old photos or at least old newspapers from that time.
