Honestly, try to find something out of Providence itself at least for your first year. I haven’t really looked at apartments in 5 years since I moved, but even then it was slim pickings in the city itself. I could be wrong but you’d probably get more bang for your buck further away (and nothing is actually far from wherever your job will be). The issue with providence apartments is 1) scams 2) great on paper and then you get there and it’s actually a shithole in an area you don’t love. Move to the burbs if you can, less to worry about. Secure a job first and if it’s something towards or in Boston, move closer there/along a commuter rail if you can afford.

If you’re planning in April, Newport has a bunch of areas covered in daffodils that make for some really beautiful pictures. There’s Dunlap Wheeler park next to first beach that ends up as a beautiful daffodil-covered park that would be really pretty.

Rocky point park has the big hill overlooking the water, or two beach areas.

The topiary garden in Newport is really pretty too but costs some admission to get in. Lovely gardens/grounds though.

Winterhawk vineyard in Kingston is tucked way back in the woods and is rustic and pretty. I went on a wine tasting there and the guy who runs it was so incredibly, earnestly nice and accommodating I’m betting he’d work with whatever budget you have to make an elopement special.

The whole western corridor of the state is underrated (Burrillville down to Bradford/Charlestown).

It’s the only part of the state where you still have a reasonable chance at buying an affordable house. Not much traffic, and it’s easy to get to Providence/the heart of the state (maybe with the exception of Burrillville and Foster).

The schools are generally good, the crime is low, and you’re much closer to most outdoor activities than the rest of the state (the West is littered with Audobon preserves, state management areas, lakes, ponds, and more).

And if you’re into it, the pace of life is more relaxed. Though they’re everywhere, you’re less likely to deal with aggressive and dangerous drivers simply because there’s less cars.

If you can look past the political atmosphere (and even that isn’t really that bad, Burrillville voted the most for Trump of all the towns at only 57.5%, Biden won Richmond, and Trump carried Exeter by less than a point), it’s really a great part of the state.
