Changing household sizes are a big one. Somerville, for example, used to one of the most densely populated places in the country, because you had like 7 people living in a 2-bed. Expectations for space & privacy have increased, so now you have couples with no kids in that same 2-bed that used to hold seven. After the pandemic there was also ton of sudden household formation as people left their parents that brought a spike in rents. Basically, even while there are fewer people competing over houses, there are more households than available homes.
Also, I don't think rental prices grow linearly with pop growth—if the state's population grows by 4% but only enough housing is built to accommodate 3.9% growth, then renter competition is still present, which will increase rents every year until there are fewer households willing to pay the price then there are houses.

There are going to be some people who are going to have a hard time with this because of the people in their lives they lost to addiction, but this is a place for a second chance.
I'm not the best with my emotions, but I appreciate when I am given those second chances from others.
People suffering from opioid addiction deserve as many second chances as possible. A lot of value systems also want to create opportunities where people can have as many second chances as possible because they value life.
True, a place to do drugs doesn't seem like a good last resort. But maybe these places can be the start of someone's recovery because there is rehab outreach available. Maybe we can also start practicing accountability, not just for those at these clinics, but at the systems in place that lead people to using. (I know I need to work on being accountable for my own actions.)

I would say get a fire pit with a grill attachment. Have a hit dog near by in case some one comes by. Just gotta make sure they allow charcoal grills.

Or anywhere chill enough to just have a fire- and if anyone knows what would happen if I got caught doing that? I’m assuming a fine, would rather just do it somewhere I am allowed! Lol thanks

He has said he doesn’t want to move from New York but he has also said in the past that he never should have left PC.

Maybe this has been asked before, but what is the long term cause of this? I'm no expert in economics, but maybe someone here is?
Looking at census data, the population of RI has only increased 4.3% since 2000. The price for a home has gone from $133k to $428k. I couldn't find rent data older than 2006 but it was $808 then. It's $1199 for a 1 bedroom now according to https://www.rentdata.org/states/rhode-island/2023
If the population isn't increasing much, and salaries aren't increasing much, where is the money coming from? Air b&b? Are there a ton of empty rentals?
What is driving this market?

Cops don’t give a shit about anything except collecting a paycheck and then a pension. They can’t get fired for not doing their job, and the job sucks so why would they bother?

Damn this really sucks. He’s been great for the program and it’s even better he was from here. I don’t see a single candidate they could find that would satisfy replacing him. But you could tell by his quotes in the media he was already planning on leaving for some time, did not deny anything

Sounds like Newport East on Aquidneck Island is your spot. Under 5 minutes to beaches, under 10 to downtown Newport and plenty of farms and vineyards with lots of public access hiking and walking trails (e.g., Norman Bird Sanctuary). It’s about 35 minutes to the train in Kingston and T.F. Green and 1:30 minutes to Boston with traffic.
St George’s is right there and there are a few private schools on the Island.
Summers are unbeatable.

They all sound pretty awesome to be honest which is part of the challenge of narrowing things down when you have to pick. Any suggestions? Seems like I’m on the right track with EG and Bristol but if you were me and you had to cut it off at top 3-4 places to consider what would they be?

Well I don’t plan on skiing in Rhode Island but the rest would be great and seems achievable. Nice thing about Rhode Island is that it’s even closer to NH/VT than where we are currently so cuts down on the diriving Tim to some of the closest real mountains

What makes it better so hands down? I don’t have a view so genuine question. Appreciate the feedback. Seems like EG is the “easy, sure thing” for us based on some feedback

What are the logistics to train from there to NYC? How long does it take and how many transfers?
Middletown and Portsmouth both look very nice I was honestly just reluctant to sign up for challenging commutes (albeit infrequent) so that’s why I figured the islands would be harder

I like this. Our goal with money is to achieve durable personal freedom (which is what we consider to be true wealth). We don’t believe in materialism at all but we do like the option of sitting in a nice cafe or occasionally going out for a nice bite to eat. We aren’t drinkers rather readers, homebodies and like to take up new hobbies from time to time (I worked on a regenerative farm for a few months recently and shortly after learned how to sail in a small sailboat for example). Is there something about the daily lifestyle outside of the people you prefer in Bristol vs EG such as the town?

Yeah just based on Redfin looks like the options are normal homes and then a large leap to massive estates on the little peninsula there. Not seeing much in between. But will keep an eye out as inventory comes to market over the next couple of months.

Patience, years of plotting a course in this direction, lots of long hours and ultimately carving out a niche that has paid off substantially over the past few years. Sorry don’t want to be too specific but if I can do it anybody can. Just zoom out and work backwards. Where do you want to be in ten years, what does it take to get there, and pluck away.
We love Vermont just can’t live there right now. Would love to one day live somewhere along the lake though.

We are not building enough housing supply to keep up with growing demand. It really is that easy. Don't let anyone tell you it's oversimplification.
