I was literally in the hospital twice in the last 2 months with food poisoning. After the first time I said never again, but I kept going to the place I suspected I got it from anyway and 2 weeks ago and it happened again. I haven't stopped eating out since then, just stopped going to that place.

I ate a burger from an AW spot, it tasted good but man I regret not examining my food the burger was undercooked and spent hours blowing up my toilet and puking the worst experience ever, I never went back to that place. Was sick for probably a week or two and I missed school too.

Nowadays I am very cautious of any burgers from any place, I am actually glad that certain places over cook some burgers just a touch, I feel safer cause you can always slap sauce on the patty.

Oh small update to my story forgot to mention it took me a long time to eat a burger again after that experience. Anytime someone would offer a burger I would shake and feel nauseated.

Sushi for me.

Made it awkward when I was at a party at the Japanese embassy a decade ago and what seemed to be the only food on offer was sushi. Saw another guest with some tempra chicken and found out there was one piece on every platter when taken out so I waited by the door for the next one to come.

The sushi looked great but I didn't want to trigger any gag reflex in front of an ambassador!

Yep.

A few times I've been ill and thought "Ah, it must have been..." and then realised that there was basically no time in which that could have taken effect - and re-eating that same meal had no effect.

I don't get ill often so it really sticks out in my mind and I try to find the cause and it's basically never attributable to food.

Part of that is because I cook everything "properly" (by which I mean, fuck your still-bloody steaks, if it hasn't changed colour all the way through it's going back on the heat) but also that I preserve my food well (freezing, refrigeration, keeping it sealed, etc.) and I avoid dodgy food (e.g. seafoods unless frozen and then well-cooked).

I have even once or twice taken to literally listing everything I'd eaten in the last few days, as far as memory will serve, and eliminating them as often I still have that food around... and I re-eat it and don't get a recurrence.

Sometimes it's nothing to do with your food, and sometimes people think it can't be anything to do with their food and it was from food from weeks ago.

One thing I will say is that you'll probably never eat the thing you got food poisoning from again. For me it was frozen mini pizza at a hockey game. That happened 27 years ago and I've never eaten a frozen mini pizza since.

The sickest I've ever been in my life and it could only be described as a three day decent into hell followed by a 2 day journey back out. By the time it was done I was so sore from puking I couldn't stand up straight. I would sip warm water so I would have something to throw up because the dry heaves hurt too much.
