Because the countries that were making the maps when this convention was established are all in the north and put themselves "on top".
And you can't really blame them...it is useful to have maps always pointing the same way. So they had to put themselves either always at the bottom or always on top. Top is what I'd have done too.

You have to think of the map as laying flat on a table, then there is no up or down (besides text orientation)

We are white because our ancestors were from areas where the sun is not the strongest.. otherwise we would have developed like the people in Africa.. its location and genetics. Not like we all of a sudden were like oh we need to move up here.. we were already there and thats how we developed. The Human race has been around for a very long time.

I assume you are referring to stomach breathing?
I recall reading that when we are born we breath with our stomach, but at some point start breathing with our chest instead and have to re-learn using the stomach if we want to be able to manipulate our voice and airflow with more control and range.

Yeah, I think that's a good description of the psychology, but not a good argument about morality. When we recognize that we're participating in something unethical, don't you think we should stop?

I'm curious from your perspective how the homeless issue should be handled in the future? Is the current system that bad?

Having control is not the same as needing to learn how to do it to begin with.
Also you can't "not blink" your body wont let you. Eventually you will blink. Just like breathing. You can try to hold your breath but eventually your body makes you breathe.

To quote The Shins, "Maybe those invisible slaves are too far away for the ghosts to haunt." They meant child labor in sweatshops, but I think the principle applies here.

Humanized animals seems all fun and cute until you break the law and are punished back to the house of pain.

So there was a little Jewish boy being schooled locally in the community. And he was getting terrible grades. Would never study, failed all of his tests, skipped school. The works.
In a fit of desperation his parents decided to enroll him in a Catholic school there was renowned for being super strict. They figured if those Nuns couldn’t sort him out, nobody could.
Sure enough, his first day back from school he went straight to his room and studied for hours. And this continued for weeks. After his first report card arrived his parents were thrilled to see he had all passing grades, and even an A in math which had previously been his worst subject.
So his parents went to talk to him about how his behavior had changed, and what it was about the Catholic school that their own community couldn’t provide. “Was it the strictness of the nuns?” They asked.
“No” he replied.
“Do they have a better curriculum? Is the material more engaging?” They tried again.
“No, and no” he answered.
“Well then what was it?” They asked in confusion.
“From the moment I walked in there and saw the guy nailed to the plus sign, I knew they weren’t messing around!”

Most white cultures are in the northern hemisphere and many non-white cultures are in the southern hemisphere. The whites have to be on top and in the middle to feel more powerful.
