Offsets are scams that don't actually do anything.
They're not cutting their emissions.

Isn't that statement from the particular band member who was also in Russia through a lot of the early Coronavirus Pandemic?
He also cost Sabaton a contract cancelled over a song they produced for the Military commemorating them after the later found out he was a draft dodger. Edit: apparently Sabaton playing in occupied Crimea was a factor too.
Edit: Edit: Damn, and the Swedish Government retracted their support for a another of their patriotic Swedish songs after that concert too.
A quick search has the band's comment about the Russian invasion being about how horrible War is - without condemning anyone - which seems to be a deliberately neutral statement. I guess they have loads of Russian fans and would rather not lose their business.

In the article is said that higher temps had caused evaporation, I’m sure there could be other causes as well but that was the only one named in this particular article.
It’s really sad.

Makes me cringe seeing so many churches with manicured lawns. Could easily share space with food gardens and emergency housing if they wanted to. Good on this guy for opening his doors

Is it actually evaporation? I thought it was the runoff from neighboring areas that used to flow into the lake has been diverted and used as a water source for the growing population in the area

Yeah, it sounds great on paper but ultimately the fund won’t lose money, it’s peoples pensions that will take a hit. Happened in Chile too, they advertised a lot for people to switch from the old system and join the new one, promising substantial pension rises and when the first people started getting their pensions they amounted to less than half the minimum wage.

in one of my classes we were just talking about the evaporation of the Great Salt Lake and if it completely dries up the soil will most likely let off toxic chemicals that will make surrounding areas uninhabitable

We're a nation of 300 million. There are many thousands of these and soon to be tens of millions after the GOP ends social security for those under 55.

So am I. Every government in the world got together to ban HFC’s. You can’t legally produce something with HFC in any country. It was a huge environmental win.

I was talking about the hole in the ozone layer and I was in third grade so yea. Wasn't privy to all the knowledge of the climate crisis.

Well that’s cool, but uh what about the fact that Lake Mead, Lake Powell, and The Great Salt Lake are evaporating.
Also that snow melt in many areas of the west have developed this bizarre pink shit growing on it, rendering it totally not ok to drink or use for agriculture, etc.
The Great Salt Lake has lost more than something like 70% of it’s water, leaving 63% of the lake bed completely exposed.
Scientists are saying it will be gone in less than five years if emergency measures aren’t taken immediately.
Fun fact: also (although there’s been a lot of rain in California lately for a change (source lived in California most of my life)) that west coast folks will be the very first “climate migrants” in the US due to drought, there will literally be a completely untenable water situation within the next 8-10 years…and not just Ca, but much of the American west like Arizona, Utah, Nevada, and more.
I hope they’re wrong, but fear they’re right…
