In 74 it would have to be this one--if it was the Columbia.
Source--old fuck here who used it several times a year and grew up in the Spokane area.

Hit up Whidbey Island. Most scenic spot after Mt Rainier is Deception Pass at North End of the island. There’s a nice campground at Deception Pass State Park. If the weather is clear you get awesome views of both the Cascade and Olympic mountain ranges, driving up the island, especially from Greenbank Farms, about halfway up the island. This time of year, though it can vary, daytime temps tend to be in the 40s, and no snow. Any supermarket in the region will have a selection of smoked salmon options.

On Whidbey Island, the southern part of the island around Langley is very liberal, the north part around Oak Harbor, very conservative. Oak Harbor is a Navy town. Culturally, saying you’re from either North or South Whidbey pegs you as liberal or conservative, generally speaking.

I did this walk last year. The lighthouse at the end is great and we got a private tour from the keeper. I also saw some whales in the distance. Great walk, very exhausting tho.

Linden is pretty Conservative to a yikes degree.
Bellingham is Liberal, considering it's a college town.
This is just personal experience.

Skagit Valley has some surprises. Looks more like Lynden in the north and towns like Napavine, Toledo farther south

I was on a foot bridge in Bend, Oregon about a week ago and a BNSF train went underneath. The conductor even honked right before s/he went under the bridge. Interesting experience for sure. Glad you were able to observe something similar.
