I love PT, lived there awhile in the early 90's. This is my experience there, too. People are dicks in PT until they get to know you.....sometimes. Sometimes they're always going to be dicks to you. Or they except you only to kick you to the curb later.

I grew up in a smallish town, Astoria, OR, and people there don't have that edge. Maybe it's because of the art/craftsman/quirky outcast thing in PT and the working-class/rough around the edges/haven't got the pretentiousness in Astoria. PT lost it's allure for me pretty quickly. They could be nice....they don't want to be.

Thanks much for the information. I'll check out the site/book. I'm in Bellingham so Baker Lake is certainly reachable. We've gone to the fossil fields near Mosquito Lake Road and found lots of plant fossils.

The most exciting thing in the world would be to find a geode in the wild but just being in the woods or on a stream is fun. I assume you're referring to the Walker Valley near Big Lake?

Yeah, they're "running" every day - when they don't bang into something or break down or suffer some other kind of problem. Which happens all too often. (Shit like cancelling the last two Bremerton runs, which happened last night.)

I'm guessing you and the folks who downvoted me don't live where they're dependent on the ferry and don't pay attention.

Individual actions are not particularly impactful against this type of environmental issue. Corporations and lobbyists have spent the past 50+ years systematically dismantling environmental protections including their fight against increasing miles per gallon for new vehicles and approving new oil drilling pipelines.

The best you can do is vote for environmentally progressive candidates and advocate for environmentally sustainable policies, but we’re rapidly reaching the point of no return, and it has nothing to do with car washing or teeth brushing.
