It's definitely possible to find octopuses in tidepools, though they're uncommon and/or tough to spot. People occasionally find them at low tide on rocky beaches in Seattle and other areas of Puget Sound. (e.g. Constellation Park in West Seattle). My family and I saw one in a shallow channel at Salt Creek last fall.

Just FYI if you visit: bring a sun hat, sunblock, and a shitload of water and snacks. There’s zero shade out on the flats. The nearest restaurant is all the way down in Cougar, and they take tourists to the cleaners. Same with gas. Fill up in Woodland, Kalama, or Castle Rock. Before anything else, call USFS Gifford Pinchot in Vancouver for road conditions. They can be pretty rough.
E: If you know where to look on Johnston Ridge, there’s a very small marker where Johnston was sitting when he got obliterated.

Skyline is great! Another good option, but longer drive is Mount Baker Ski Area. Park in Heather Meadows lot (paid parking for overnight, book and pay online.) You could hike all the way up to Artist Point but there are plenty of good spots much closer to the lot. Have fun!!
