There is no place like where we live. I can literally ride my bike 5 minutes to the local MTB trail, another 5 to a second, and that links to at third. I can be at Tiger Mountain trailhead in 15-20 minutes. Rattlesnake is 30 minutes. Mt Si in about the same time. Fly fishing, skiing, road cycling, camping…it’s all literally minutes away in pretty much any direction you want to travel. I wish it were cheaper to live here, but for an outdoor person I can’t imagine how it could be better.

All fair points. Those crevices at the top really are terrifying

Beautiful photo!
But for me personally? Oooof. Never again. Tried this 7-8 years ago with my youngest at the time. Too many people acting a fool going up and down + the “hey so do you want to die today” crevices at the top. Nope.

I'm in Kingston and the surrounding areas around here are really nice. Been here almost 30 years, love it. Drive through Shelton often and I kind of like it....great restaurants, antique stores and at Christmas they have everything beautifully lit up and decorated---there's even a Christmas parade!
I'm not sure I'd raise kids there, though. Too many pedophiles imho.

Happens a lot with Doug fir and Hemlock too. And it travels through the soil from tree to tree. The area I live has had it so bad that they attempted to plant a generation of Ponderosa pine to try and filter out the disease.

Totally. Same reason sequoias will start to die or fall over up here. Western WA is too damp. They like the dry soil of The Sierras.

We recently moved to the outskirts of Shelton it’s not bad. Definitely depends on what neighborhood you move to.

Learned the hard way. I was there because it’s the southern start of the snoqualmie valley trail (which no one is ever on by comparison) and it’s such a pita if there’s a little bit of sunshine.
Honestly I still haven’t done this hike after being here for a year now but idk if I’m really missing anything when so many other beautiful trails exist.

I live near Chehalis. Freeway is fine between Onalaska and Centralia, at least.

I would strongly disagree based on my time spent up there, but that's my opinion everyone's got one.

It's actually 50/50 on politics.

Just moved here over a year ago. It's not too bad. There's a lot of poverty but also million dollar houses. The schools do suck. Politics wise it's fairly even. My husband isn't white and we haven't had issues. My oldest is non-binary and no issues. There are 3 places that I know of that are known to be racist. There's like no traffic. It has almost everything. The safeway is a little sketchy because of their location. I have no issues with Walmart. It's only 25-30mins from Olympia.

Looked it up for curiosity…
”The King County Sheriff's office says, on average, two people fall to their deaths on Rattlesnake Ledge each year”
