As someone that goes thru there dozens of times. It’s cool but it’s relatively boring, it’s mostly a residential and industrial town by this point. The suspension bridge is cool tho

Highway 410 has crystal mountain still open, so it still has traffic. I’m obviously not saying Cayuse pass has traffic considering there’s several feet of snow there

Interesting post, thanks. I've often wondered myself. New England has always seemed comparable from afar, but I've never been.
Kind of a bummer the way its being painted tho! I'll still at least try to visit some day and decide for myself.

How heavy would you estimate the traffic to be then, on that closed road?
heathenbeast t1_j9uoxwd wrote
Cayuse Pass is closed for the season. The 410 is kept open only as far as far as the Crystal Mountain Ski Area. Google maps is currently saying closed until June 2023. I don't know if rooting for an early melt is a good thing, so I'd delay that plan til summer.
Teeley Creek looks interesting and appears open. Gonna be real cold and I'd make sure my vehicle was UP for forest roads that may not get into the plow schedule, depending on the latest weather. I'd been looking at a trip up Rainier to Paradise and it's only being plowed on weekends.

Preach.
Personally I think we should add some gold to represent our bread basket in the east, but I get how people would wanna stick with the more restricted color scheme for aesthetics
Edit: I guess the light blue is the skies if E WA, so ok.

No one here gives much of a shit about Washington’s family crest. We care that he shrugged off his British roots and founded a nation that eventually grew to encompass the beautiful land we now know.
We want a salmon or our big ass mountain that is 3 times the height of Ben Nevis on our flag.
Washington’s family crest would somehow be an even worse representation of what this great state means.

Thanks! This is the Summerland Trail in the Sunrise portion of Mt Rainier NP. It’s a 10.1 mile, out-and-back hike with 2,600 feet of elevation gain (Moderate to difficult). Anyone can hike here (June through October-ish), but you need a permit to camp.

You’re going to have to pick or choose from your wishlist. WA’s cost of livings isn’t very far below CA’s now, at least where people want to live.
All rural areas are going to have a higher per capita rates of homophobics and racists unfortunately. All rural places are also more likely to have poverty issues that result in a lot of petty crime and drug use, compared to the suburbs.

It has a ton of opposition too. I actually bought that flag during the Kickstarter campaign. I posted it on Reddit and it got a LOT of hate and the most common sentiment was, "our current flag is fine/better."
I think the flag change (which NEEDS to happen) is an uphill battle and that hill is Tahoma.
That's the original designer prior to his Kickstarter campaign.
Here's my post. I just realized I posted it to the vexillology sub not the Washington. So I shouldn't have read into the critique as much if they aren't actually Washingtonians.
(PS I am a fellow transplant. Welcome to the region! If you're interested in flag redesigns check out Maine's current flag and popular choice to replace it!)

From Boston, been in Washington for just under 4 years now. Boston moves much faster, people are far more impatient there. People tend to look down or straight forward when walking, a hello from a stranger is treated as odd and creepy. You are much more likely to be honked at and given the finger( or "flipped the bird") when driving. In Washington people are much more friendly, not necessarily trustworthy or nicer, but friendlier for sure. The food in that area is better by far though. I like Washington better because so many people are from somewhere else, you don't feel isolated like you may in the Boston/New England area not being from there. The weather here is better.

That seems challenging, but you might find something in Vancouver or Bremerton. Try those areas and see if anything works for you.

I stopped in that area to visit a feed store and was spooked away by the confederate flags on the trucks in the parking lot.

Lame. OR is rude, man. If I live in WA, but work in OR -- I have to pay their income tax.
Their citizens should be able to do the opposite (not pay state income if they work out of state).
Meanwhile, they are allowed to negate WA sales tax by showing an OR ID. That should go away too.
Oh well.
