I’m from the other end of WA (Walla Walla) and we still find them fairly common around here.

Puyallup is where you want to move to. I get to see the mountain when she’s out just driving around.

Fun fact: one of the hills here, Queen Anne hill, where Kerry Park is, is taller than the tallest natural point in the whole state of Florida.
Look it up. ;)

Was just there this week walking around the Pike Place area at dusk. Looking out over the sound at a beautiful sunset. Spiced cider from one lone apple vendor that stayed behind. Lots of other people walking around and enjoying themselves. It was magical.

As a Floridian who had a similarly magical WA vacation and vowed to move to Seattle, I can tell you it has been the best decision I’ve ever made. Glad you enjoyed!

I live in a very boring suburban area so experiencing any sort of downtown city is exciting for me. Downtown Seattle was for sure dirty and shady at times, but it still felt lively and chaotic in a good way to me nonetheless.

I 100% am definitely going to visit the state again sometime in the future so I will make sure to check out those places.

I’m from Florida! So you can imagine my shock at how the different landscapes are.

Where are you from? I agree, Washington IS so beautiful and there’s so much more to see than just in Seattle! It makes me sad how it’s become so crime ridden in so many areas and homelessness all over, especially Seattle. Even with all that though, there are still really beautiful places to go that remind me of better times and make me nostalgic! I’m glad you got to visit!

Central Washington (east edge of the cascades) is also super beautiful. I would reccomend checking out Leavenworth (not so much the town, still cool but touristy), but all of the hiking in the Enchantments. There are a ton of amazing trailheads about 20 minutes from town.

I did this hike in Fall 2021. Camped in the core enchantment region. Probably one of the best hikes/camps imo. The sunsets & sunrises here are truly magical with larches and pristine alpine lakes. Mesmerizing! Worth every ounce of pain that I went through climbing Aasgard pass.

Just FYI if you are a software engineer, it is likely you have short term disability insurance at your job, in which case you can take paid family medical leave and be covered for your full salary and not just the cap that the state will cover - you will need to get a medical attestation from your doctor that the leave is necessary, but such things are covered under the FMLA

There is a sign like this not far from the “pet area” sign at a rest stop as you come into into Boise. It’s been a long time but this pic reminded me of that. The kids thought it was so wrong, lol.

Your time off should be covered but I don't think it is 100% of your salary. Insurance coverage for the medical care is something else entirely and has to be claimed through your medical insurance.

I never got to apply the correct way (meaning I applied before I gave birth because my little one decided to be premie). However, I had no issues getting the back payments. Overall, I had a neutral experience and it was easy to navigate and fill out the forms and I did make a phone call a few times for questions and everyone was nice to me.

They used to have a service for helicopter rides about half way up SR 504. Dont know if that's still there or an option in winter, but something I would love to do.

Thanks so much for this. I called the ranger today and she confirmed exactly this. I’m relieved that there’s hope for my trip!
