I once worked in radio in this area. All programming decisions are informed by national music charts. Stations can see which songs were added/dropped in any given week and they all just follow those charts.

In addition to that, record labels are always pushing (often paying) for their songs to be added. I once loved this medium but, after seeing how the sausage is made and how little money it provides it's people, I can't stand it.

In my case, I don't pay into it, nor am I eligible to receive it. Some weird thing about our union contract and how it has to be negotiated. That being said, I have forgone and put off procedures needed until I get my vacation time. Like I need knee surgery and have pushed it out to September when I get my vacation time. I get it in August, but there no appointments then. Mainly because I can't afford not to get paid for the 6 or 7 weeks of rehab after the surgery. So, in the meantime, I work as much over time as I can as my vacation hours are based on the amount of hours worked per year. Which may cause further damage to the knee.

Yep, she is getting paid just like the last two times. I was approved for PFML when she went to New Mexico and to California, 3 weeks and 2 weeks. The problem with childcare is not paying for childcare. it's my work hours that prevent me from doing it every day. There are days when im 200 miles from home working someone's facility and staying there until the work is completed. I have worked 20 hours straight some days. I am a Milwright, or Maintenance Contractor, going to Amazons, UPS, Fedex, Ontrac, and other places all over the Puget Sound area.

Trying to find daycare for extended hours is not easy. We have one we use, and they offer extended daycare, and I will be using it when they go back to school after the summer. IWill be taking my kids to the daycare early in the morning and they will take them to school for me and picking them up from school and when I finish work, I will pick them up at daycare. I will also be working for 7 months of her deployment.

Regardless, I get $50 deducted from my paychecks per month for PFML, and I qualify to use it for 12 weeks, then im going to use it.

Probably.

As others have posted, seems like there are more ads - I wonder if that has to do with there being more choices (satellite radio, streaming services) so radio needs to sell more ads cheaper since they're not reaching as many people.

I bet there is a huge chunk of the population that just streams from their phone and doesn't bother listening to the radio at all. I'd probably do this for the most part but my phone->car audio has barely tolerable sound quality.

EDIT: Yeah, try KEXP. I like a lot of their genre specific shows, they match what I typically listen to.
