Nah. If the WRTA makes any changes, they should be cutting routes so that they're more condensed and focused on serving high frequency corridors in the city limits over sprawling geographies where ridership is lower. Get the city right first and immediate suburbs right first - high frequency service, rapid lanes, high traffic corridors.

The furthest out stops should be right now are places like Shrewsbury, Auburn, Cherry Valley, West Boylston, Holden, etc. Direct routes right into the city for commuters to have an option where they can avoid hopping on 290/190.

Once we actually get ridership and reliability established, then explore those connectors.

At one time circa 1950s, 1960s you could take an overnight sleeper train from NYC to Portland ME, it followed a kind of weird route, leaving the Northeast Corridor in Providence to head northwest through Woonsocket to Worcester, then running northeast to Lowell & Lawrence and on to Portland.

From there you could connect to Montreal and St. John NB by rail also, I believe if you had a sleeping car room and there was enough demand sometimes they'd just transfer the whole car to another railroad, and you didn't need to change trains yourself.

There were also regular commuter trains between Boston and Albany and Boston and Hartford, though the Boston to Hartford route was never that popular and didn't last past the 1950s.

In my experience they don’t mind. For instance, coming back from Chicago I was supposed to get off in Boston but they let us get off in Worcester. Since you’ve paid for the ticket I mean you’re not doing anything wrong - though it is actually not possible to book a ticket from Worcester to Boston through amtrak so it is a bit of an exploit

If you are in a credit union, check with them about getting a car loan. They'll tell you how much they can loan and for how long. If you don't belong to a credit union, maybe check with your bank?

Another idea, if you don't need it right away, check your credit score with one of the big three and make sure that everything they are basing your score on is accurate. Also, look up (google?) and see how long it would take to improve your credit score; I think it depends on what financial sin you have committed.

If you study the highway map, you will see the capacity of the highway system to the south is lower than any other sector. This puts more traffic on the pike. The planned northeast corridor route would have balanced this a little better...but here we are. Google maps with the traffic layer on illustrates this status on a daily basis. The big dig fixed a ton of access issues around the city. There has been capacity issues on 93 south for decades prior to the project and they continue to worsen.

Because math is hard? Subtract $100k from assessed value and then multiply by .015. Not sure where the deception comes into that, but my personal calculator came up with a number that is entirely consistent with the one on the research bureau’s page. Either way I’m looking at $53. Yay basic math!!

We’re talking $50/year on average for most homeowners which then allows the city to access additional state funds to improve our green spaces and provide other community benefits. Many other cities and town in MA have been accessing those funds for 20 years while Worcester has been twiddling its collective thumbs. Worcester redditors are constantly complaining that the city is backwards and small minded (and they’re not wrong bc the elderly voters have long determined the city’s priorities). The CPA is a perfect example of a way to improve Worcester that will likely fail if the elderly voters have their way.

If you’re interested in Comics/Records That’s Entertainment is the only option. It’s a fantastic shop. BT’s Smokehouse is a five minute walk from there and has some great BBQ as well.

If you’re looking to grab a beer before the show, I’d honestly recommend going over to Ralph’s Diner. They also cook burgers on the grill there. It’s a metalhead’s utopia, so much character and you’ll appreciate it.

If you’re looking for walking distance from the Palladium itself your options are limited. Armsby Abbey is a craft beer centric restaurant closeby if you’re into that sort of thing.

Maybe 10 years back they had a bigger bear sculpture that got stolen out of their front yard overnight. I remember living in the neighborhood at the time and seeing it on the news. Must have been a determined thief because I would imagine a 6 foot tall wooden bear weighs a lot and would be hard to hide and/ or resell. Some people say they've been sitting outside and glaring at people ever since.
