People need to understand what's happening. There is a shortage of people willing to do this work. Until the city can fix their side, people won't be applying for these jobs as much. They're doing what they can with the resources (people) they have. If you have this big of an issue with it, go get your proper license for plowing and get a job to help.

When I was a carpenter, we went to crossroads sawmill because it was pretty close, theres a few around. I heard winwood sawmill in Winchendon is better for craftzmen specifically. They have a kiln and some other workshop tools that most people dont have.

I only needed special wood for special projects.

Another place to ask for a reference is the Worcester Center For Crafts on Sagamore street in Worcester. Lots of high end artisans there to give you some leads.

Off the top of my head Koopman Lumber in Grafton and Morse Lumber in Southbridge. I'm not a woodworker so I don't really know how they stack up against other options but my Father and Grandfather both were and that's who they used.

Get snow tires, made the mistake this year of not putting them on in December thinking a day of snow wouldn't hurt and regretted it when I was sliding down the hills. You can technically downshift in an automatic it just depends on your car, check the last options on your shifter or paddles on your steering wheel. Besides that, don't outright brake coming down just tap it if anything and going up you want a consistent speed so you're constantly digging in but you don't want to race up the hill. With proper tires it's all about practicing to avoid sliding. I was the same way coming from Florida. I'd also suggest a windshield/sideview mirror cover to avoid having to clean it every time
