I don't see how its misguided to have a social worker working with a police officer who is dispatched to the scene of someone having a mental breakdown. While I agree we need more beds for the mentally unwell, there is nothing wrong with having someone properly trained in dealing with this population instead of relying on untrained police officers to respond to these types of calls.

Just a few weeks ago I had to have one of my clients sectioned and the cops who showed up were immediately... hmmm not aggressive but not kind in their approach and ended up setting the guy off even more. If I wasn't there to intervene it could have been worse, but instead I asked the person to go back into their apt and asked the cops to let me handle the talking, which they were more than happy to do. Eventually the person calmed down and came out and we all joked around while waiting for the ambulance.

Worcester's ten-year license with Charter/Spectrum is set to expire in October. There have been/will be many public meetings to determine whether/what terms the city should renew for another ten years.

The next set of meetings focuses on local community media programming and takes place in April. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/worcester-focus-groups

Hamilton st , Lake Ave , plantation st - busy roads with quieter side streets / neighborhoods, close to shrewsbury st

totally residential (5 minutes to downtown/shrewsbury st area ) massasoit rd / blithewood Ave. This is sometimes referred to as the Broadmeadow Brook neighborhood in real estate listings. (There’s an Audubon Sanctuary with that name in the area)

Many of those positions go to students & teens (i.e., people who don't have tons of work experience). They're still in school, maybe living with their parents. If you've been in the workforce for many years, you're too over-qualified for an entry level position. You'd be applying for a more senior role which comes with more pay. In theory anyway...

But in reality:

  • Roommates, partner/spouse's income, live with parents/family.
  • Multiple jobs.
  • Live in a cheaper neighborhood like Vernon Hill or Clark as opposed to West Tatnuck. Or leave the city and commute. Whatever it takes.
  • Look into government assistance like Section 8, EBT/WIC, etc. The threshold for a lot of these things can be surprisingly high especially if you have kids.
