So go to Maddie's for 11:30-12 and eat brunch there then head to the Worcester beer garden for the game. Maddie's has the best brunch menu and the beer garden has a big projector screen for the game.

There’s a location on Park Ave now! Can’t speak to it as I haven’t been there though

Thanks for the hard numbers. I was being lazy but knew it was north of 200k. Regardless its not 180k, and if the violent crime numbers are accurate this would shift where Worcester ranks. Assuming they are right on the other cities. Its all just odd to me.

Clinton’s a pretty charming little village these days. Good revitalization of the mill buildings, and the dam is amazing.

The 2020 census has Worcester at 206,518. Estimates are that today it's between 211 and 212,000.

Is the population number low or is it me? I see it listed as around 180k but thought the city in 2021 wiuld have been closer to 200k. Probably not a massive shift in the calculation, but odd that its off.

For reference, the FBI considers violent crime as homicide, rape, robbery and aggravated assault. Those individual occurrences are in the stats for all Worcester County towns at the very bottom of the piece.

if you want to see last year's, it is available in archive: https://web.archive.org/web/20211128144916/https://thisweekinworcester.com/fbi-data-dangerous-cities-2020/
I'm about to forward to the new piece for SEO reasons.

Yea, exactly. The idea is how likely you are to be a victim in said location. Its still a statistic, so certainly not a perfect measure.

I'm guessing domestic violence.
I'd be wiling to bet North Adams is college bar drinking and fighting.

When malls were a thing, book stores didn't do well in them. When the Worcester Mall, the Galleria was new, for a couple of years there was a book store called Walden's. I worked downtown then and would go to Walden's every pay day. Then one day it was gone. The Worcester mall only lasted a decade and never even paid for itself. Such was the fate of a lot of malls in the US from that time forward. It's not a shopping experience I'll ever miss. Before Walmart came along there was a lot of similar retail but a notch classier, cheap stuff but you couldn't shop in those places in your pajamas. Didn't care for them either but I'll always miss Spag's. I'm an hour west of Worcester but used to make a day of it at Borders, Spag's and Trader Joe's. I haven't been out that way in while. Ordering stuff online is easy enough but just not the same kind of experience.
