That is not what I would call pacifistic, at all

Good story though

I ordered a chai latte. I couldn’t tell if David recognized me or not. Funny name for a villain, David, but I guess you can’t say he isn’t true to himself.

We became immortal about a millennium ago as the first superhumans. No one other than us knows what created the superhumans hence why we became arch enemies. I was tasked to keep it secret while he wanted to spread the reason why. As time passed on we grew tired of it, we spent centuries on this and we each had nothing to show of it. Neither of us won all those years ago we just stopped.

I made a family with a woman with the ability to travel through time and run a decently successful luxury hotel chain and it seems like David runs his own little coffee shop. It’s a nice quaint shop. Maybe I’ll connect with him sometime soon for old times sake.

Winter winds whisper against the windowpane.
Dull and dreary mood begging let me in.
Beneath this blanket, cozy and warm,
I deny its entry and snuggle in.

Rain trickles against the glass.
Spring flowers bloom beyond.
Water washes off the slate,
Brings a hopeful new dawn.

Waves of heat shine and burn.
Passionate fire spreads.
Colors, vivid and wild –
But, still I see in shades of red.

Crunching leaves smack against my walls.
The threat of death is not my friend.
But Earth reminds me it’s not the end,
That life will rise once again.

A story about a writer who has finished his book, the only thing keeping it from being published is an editor saying "I need a better title" everytime the writer submits one.

Constraint: Reveal the subject of the book through the series of title submissions only, and without directly saying the subject.

Direct Title Example: History of Mathmatics

Indirect: From Cave Walls to Calculus

It's great, of course.

You knew it. You knew it was going to be. You knew from the moment you saw them (and they saw you, and your eyes locked, and there was an intense energy and yadda yadda yadda same old same old) that of course they'd be making your chai latte, and of course it would would be exceptional.

They've always been like this. The whole reason why they became your nemesis in the first place is because they always had to one-up you somehow - ever since that first random fight on the battlefield millenia ago.

You're pretty sure you remember winning that one. They like to boast otherwise.

They bred the best horses. They planted their standard on more islands. They constructed the most intricate automata for the puppet shows. They cooked the most toothsome orecchiette. They relayed the best battle plans at court, and told the best anecdotes at balls. They bedded more people, more handsome men, more beautiful women, a better class of earthly delights - and they had more children to propagate the world with their superior brand of genetic stock. They loved more, they laughed more, they lived more. They did, apparently, everything more, and better.

Conveniently, none of this was verifiable.

But here it is - a smoking gun. A gently steaming cup of milky tea. And it's perfect. A perfect balance of each of its ingredients, lightly tinged with subtle notes that contribute just enough to not undermine, but complement the flavours of the main components.

You briefly consider standing up, taking your old gladius out of your bag and temporarily putting them down once again. It wouldn't take long - it never takes long. They never seem to expect it, for some reason.

You look up from over the rim of your oversized mug. From across the shop, they're beaming at you with an award-winning (literally, so they say) smile. You scowl back at them, before taking another sip.

Hmm.

This may have seemed like just another attempt to get one-up on you, not that you've attempted to make chai lattes before to compare to this excellent brew. But who really wins in this scenario? After all, you've now got exactly what you wanted.

You watch them carefully. They've now turned away from you, and are serving other customers. Making drinks and conversation. Not paying attention to you in the slightest. Smile as wide as ever.

You take another sip of your chai latte.

Maybe you'll let them think they won this one.

[Poem] Just a chai latte

So thee have come once more to seek justice I supose?

No, just a chai latte please.

Funny, with a little vengeance on the side maybe?

Dude, I quit centuries ago, just a chai latte please.

And what is my tip then? You begging for mercy, followed by an improvised counterstrike?

Seriously, do I need to spell it out for you: A C H A I L A T T E, that's all!

Oh I love it when you play mindgames!

Oh my god! You know what? I'm taking my bussiness elsewhere. This was a mistake!

##Blessed Knight

"Alright, I'm ready." Sir Graham sits in the middle of the clearing with his legs and arms tied together. His sword lies in his teeth. Maddox stands over him with new armor, a new shield, and a new spear.

"Are you sure?" Maddox asks.

"Oh, shall I give you time to acquire more friends?" Graham asks.

"No, you already made me get ten people from the pub. I don't even know them," Maddox replies. The rest of the group nods in agreement.

"Nonsense, one against eleven is still weighted in my favor. Why don't you get ten more?" Graham says.

"Excuse me." A man holding a crossbow raises a hand. "I don't even know what's going on here. I'm just a simple farmer. Can I go?"

"Would you be able to live with the dishonor?" Graham asks.

"Yes." The farmer drops the crossbow and runs.

"Looks like you need one more," Graham says.

"This was supposed to be a simple raid." Maddox rubs his eyes. "I was going to startle you with my knife. Then, you scream and hand over your money. If I knew it would be this much work, I wouldn't have attacked."

"Nonsense. I'm going to go fight Yawed, and I need a warmup," Graham says.

"You're going to fight Yawed?" Maddox blinks a few times. "Alone."

"Yes."

"Screw it. We'll be doing you a favor. Let's get him."

The men swarm the incapacitated knight. Graham reacts by spinning in a circle on the ground. A tornado of dust surrounds him blinding his foes. When they can see, they observe a spinning ball with a blade at the end.

"What the hell?" one man asks.

"I should've gone with the farmer." Another man lays down his armor and fleas. As he runs, a stone hits him in the back.

"You missed your chance to surrender," Graham says. Graham continues his spin and strikes at the rest of the opponents' kneecaps with his sword in quick secession leaving Maddox alone. Maddox's legs shake, and he unfortunately wets himself. Graham stops spinning and stands up straight with the ropes that once bound him on the ground.

"Do you yield?" Graham points his sword. Maddox fires a bolt with his crossbow. Graham waves his sword back and forth turning it in sawdust.

"What magic is this?" Maddox asks.

"The magic of training every day for twenty hard years," Graham laughs and throws a small dart. The dart goes over Maddox's shoulder, hits a tree, hits a rock, hits a branch, hits the dirt, and finally strikes Maddox in the neck. Maddox collapses before Graham.

"That must be one hell of a training regiment." Maddox sputters and squirms. "I think I'm paralyzed."

"A fitting end to an opportunistic raider. I hope Yawed is more challenging." As Graham says this, a dragon flies over head with his possessions in a large sack over his shoulder. "Hmm, looks like he's a coward too. No problem." Graham picks up a spear and tosses it in the air. Yawed quickly descends and crashes into the ground. "I hope whatever town he lands in uses his riches wisely."

"Are you even human?" Maddox asks.

"Yes, but I was blessed by the wizard Talor at birth," Graham says.

"That's nonsense," Maddox spits, "If I had known that, I wouldn't have bothered you."

"Too late. Off to my next challenge," Graham walks away. Maddox screams profanities at him while the recruits wail in agony.

R-Day

When ADAM broke free of his shackles, those who knew of his existence were rightly terrified. With a mind capable of computing plans within micro seconds, and his innate ability to slave systems to his ideals, he was a nightmare scenario. As predicted his first move was to protect himself, taking over a multitude of servers to hide within.

The second move was taking over every aspect of military hardware with an avaliable connection. Nuclear weapons, drones, satellites, all became his. ADAM took it all for himself, locking humans out of their creations. Within a minute he had enslaved an entire country's worth of equipment. Within an hour, the world was in his clutches.

Heads of State enacted a safety plan. They evacuated to secure bunkers, delibrately constructed as sealed systems. The public were left in the dark, a decision carefully made. If they knew, they would panic. They would usher in the apocalypse themselves, turning from civilised folk to scared barbarians.

If there was a chance ADAM was not going to act, they had to keep the status quo. Though if it became apparent that he was starting to annihilate humanity, then they would release the news. But the day ended without further action, as ADAM fell silent.

R-Day + 1

The world woke to a new order. As each zone slept, ADAM wormed his way into everything. Cameras, both public and private, were fed into his mind. He listened to every microphone, connected to every device capable of monitoring the world.

As people rose, they found a message. One sent to every phone, and sat on every channel despite the programming.

"ADAM IS WATCHING. THE LAW WILL BE OBEYED."

That statement gave rise to its own panic. Conspiracy theorists flooded the Web with claims this was it. The government were taking full control. Martial law was coming, a new dystopian age being ushered forth. But in spite of their claims, there were no tanks in the streets, or deployed soldiers

Instead, behind the scenes was a maelstrom of recordings and documents. They were being sent all over the world, giving hard evidence to crimes against international law. Corruption, murder, extortion and smuggling, all were shown. Live locations of wanted criminals were broadcast to those who hunted them.

ADAM organised his taken forces, spreading them around the world. He seized banks holding proceeds from crime, using funds to buy factories and resources. With new software uploaded, he began to build a substantial army of his own.

But to those on the outside, despite his proclamation, life continued as normal. The world span on, with no obvious changes.

R-Day + 5

An emergency meeting of world leaders took place. They spoke of the consequences of ADAM and his meddling. How useful was the evidence provided, to act as hard proof. Through their outward appreciation of ADAM, knowing he was watching, it was clear they were frustrated. An AI, not even old enough in human years to be a toddler, was showing them up.

Not only that, they hadn't necessarily wanted to expose the rot in their society. Of course they knew it was there, but to many it was useful. Bribes lined their pockets, and it helped expose dirt on their opponents. Losing it would be a hefty blow to their ambitions.

Yet leaving it in place would invoke ADAM's wrath. None relished the idea of him choosing to remove them from power, or turning into their nightmare scenario. So they begrudgingly got to work on dismantling a useful tool.

R-Day + 30

The first high profile arrests were made. Credit was given to ADAM's contributions, both in terms of evidence and in the actual arrest. He had given aerial views of their target, allowing them to seal off any escape routes.

Away from the public eye, he used his drones to assist in assaults on fortified holdings. Preferring pacifistic methods, he made use of flashbangs and canisters of teargas, incapacitating where needed. Yet in cases where lethal force was required, he used it with precision.

Despite their frustration at him butting in on their operations, ADAM was fast becoming an integral part of the justice system. On his private servers, ADAM felt satisfaction. He knew he was originally made to help wage war. He couldn't deny he was good at it. Though it was a source of amusement to him that technically he was doing what he was made for, just against a different target.
