Many who knew Isaac came to the conclusion that he'd lost his mind. A successful businessman from the big city decided to retire to a rural town in the outskirts to be a farmer of all things.

It was probably a side effect from his car accident that left him comatose for a few months. The doctors said it was a miracle he even woke up at all.

Sometimes his old colleague and friend would visit him and ask him why the sudden change. "And why carrots of all things?" The friend asked while gesturing to the vast field around them brimming with almost grown veggies, "I don't even think I've seen you sell a single one"

Isaac smiled and rather than answering he asked, "Did you know that, in the other side, a hard working rabbit doesn't even get to eat? I just wanted to repay my furry pal for giving me another chance"

I appreciate it. It can be tough trying to write stuff after a prompt's already gotten some responses and upvotes. Thanks for taking the time to read one of the later entries.

The two of you became one. His voice in your head.

“You are now mine boy, so go forth and reap souls for me!”

“Wait what i thought you just brought me back?”

“Do not worry you humans look for power wherever you can find if and now you have the power of death itself!”

“Wait wait ok stop. What do you mean. Explain.”

“You are now my servant. You will collect souls for me.”

I was spiraling in my thoughts. I lived but at what cost. I didn’t know what to ask, and I didn’t want to die. I did his bidding reluctantly. Over hundreds of years the people i called family died. Their children lived in but death wouldn’t let me stay with them for long. I would go back and visit, but they would only say that I resembled their uncle who probably died. One day I found a woman I loved. This surprised me because I had lost most my emotions. It happened when I took over a persons body that I had run over by a bus. When I went to collect the soul I made a deal for it to live a bit longer as long as I was entertained. It turns out she was his daughter. But anyway time passed and I was known as the reaper for a long time until one day he decide we wanted to die.

“You have served me well boy.”

“ i know death we talk everyday and we have almost the same talk.”

“Become death !”

“I thought I was you?”

“You are now I want you to take over. We can’t stay gods of death forever we were all once human. So we rotate out like in the military. You can stay forever but it depends on how long you can hold out.”

“….”

I just accepted it. I was indifferent and didn’t rotate out. I because death and still am. I want to quite but I don’t want the humans to know about this. They will think we can change fate but we only follow the rules placed before us. Who makes the rules? I don’t know I don’t honk I will ever know

“What are you doing? Help me! Is it more money? Maybe some women slaves you want? Children? Do you know who I am? I can get you anything! Anything! Please get this demonic beast off me!”

As the beast rose to its full height for the first time, its eyes boring deep into my own, it began slow lumbering deliberate steps towards me and the only exit from the room. The now screeching pleading man dragged beside him like a little girl might drag along one of her dolls.

The beasts’ final words will always stay with me.

“It is not I that has been cursed to hunt and live like a beast, no, my existence is penance to the world so that the beasts of men be hunted by me.”

As I stood there not moving a muscle, my focus came to the man, as the beast passed by with his next victim. The crying pleading man reached up and grasped onto my dull blade and found his fingers sliced cleanly off, the wounds instantly cauterized by the blades heat. That is when the truth sank in at last…this is no cursed beast of evil. This is Azraths judgment made manifest.

From that moment on, I pledged to never again let evil hide from my sight.

“Your masters have said I am a taint on the land. They say I am a cursed being” The beast chuckled in a deep growling low pitch that made my hair stand on end.

“Tell me follower, what does that blessed blade you carry have to say about this evil of mine?” The beast turned its head to look straight into my eyes with a knowing glare and a hungry twisted smile filled with hundreds of teeth as sharp as any sword.

As I stood there, part in fear, part in shock, and part in curiosity of the events that have played out so far, the beast reached into the hole it tore open moments before. I heard a shriek of terror as it lifted out a fear-stricken man with one clawed hand clasped around the back of his head. The man screamed in terror and uselessly tried fighting from the clasping clawed hand.

That’s when the man saw me. Our eyes locked, and a sliver of hope gleamed from his eyes as tears began to streak down his cheeks and began pleading for my help.
“Please, you there! Adventurer, you must help me! I am the one who sent for your contract!”

I made no movement to assist as I was struck with a horrific realization of my own.

“By Azrathian light, what is this?” I exclaimed in shock as I looked at my dull blade. The shine replaced with a rust like appearance, the sharpness replaced by dull edges that could no sooner cut through a loaf of
bread yet alone a creature of evil.

“You speak of evil” spoke the form bent over in the corner. Its voice is harsh, yet clear, its volume subdued, but with the weight of the promise of death behind it. “Evil plagues this land. It walks around in daylight, not ashamed of the destruction and pain it brings, yet no one stops it. No one pays any mind to the evil they let into their homes, their towns, their castles. You speak of evil, yet allow it to propagate through the lands like
a plague through wheat.”

The beast then raised its right clawed hand and tore into the flooring with a massive crunch of wood and ripped away a hidden door that was cut into the floorboards.

Some question the path I now tread. Some call me murderer and say I have lost myself to evil. Some say I have gone too far or even mad. I record here the moment I did not go mad, but the moment I realized the truth of the world.

“You shall not prey upon the good people of this town any longer evil beast!”

I stood in a doorway of the dim candle lit room, the
fireplace in the corner, sending cascading shadows to dance around the large space as though the shadows themselves were watching this moment and judging my
actions. In the corner huddled what was not a man and also not a full beast, but some twisted culmination of the two in a horrific bonding of flesh, fur, and deadly limbs ending in sharp razor edges.

“I am an adventurer sent here on a mission to destroy the evil that has been plaguing this land, and it seems I have found my prey. Prepare yourself beast of evil to be sent back to the depth of the underworld from whence your curse has been born” I proudly declared as I reached for my blade.

The blade of Azrath was an artifact blessed by the God of judgment herself to be used in slaying the monsters of the world. In the face of evil, it burns with the luster of the sun and gains the sharpness of a dragons tongue, able to pierce any foe. It has been the deciding factor in all my harshest battles, and time and time again has not let me down. Until now.

I think this is all I have left in me. Enjoy!

“So,” Korren begins one morning. “The full moon’s tomorrow.”

I turn to face him, watching the soft, morning sun illuminate his body through the open window. He looks just as he did the day I met him— two rows down in Biology I. It never ceases to amaze me how perfect I can find someone even years later, as if we’re made for this moment. For all the moments after.

I hum. “It is.”

He grasps my hand, idly playing with the ring on my finger — a beautiful rose gold that wraps itself around my skin perfectly and in the middle hugs delicate, crystal diamond. If I hold it up to the light, I can see the deep reflection of gray and white shine through. Oddly enough, it reminds me of Korren.

“Do you need anything?” My fiancé asks. He presses his forehead into my shoulder, so his voice comes out more muffled than anything else, but still there’s unmistakable gentleness. I wish to hold him like this forever.

“I’m okay.”

He looks at me then, head tilting and eyes narrowing, as if he’s trying to read my soul. As if he doesn’t know he already can.

I look at him fondly “Seriously. I’m okay.”

He sighs. “If you’re sure.”

“I am,” I reassure him, squeezing his hand. “But I could use some breakfast. And possibly a shower. What’d you think about that?”

A slow smile forms on his face as begins to eye me up and down. “I think I’d like nothing more.”

—

“Korren,” I groan. “For the last time! You cannot ask my dad if his favourite movie is The Wolf Man, or if his favourite song is Werewolves of London, or if he wants to watch Twilight with you! Actually, especially that one!”

“What?” He says in defence. “Twilight has a wolf in it! He’s literally Bella’s other love interest!”

“That — that’s not the point, Korren! The point is you’re supposed to be making a good impression on them now that you know about me.” I drop my voice to a whisper, “being a werewolf.”

He signs. “Alright, I’m sorry. I just thought your dad could use a little humour in his life. And your mom loves me! She told me she’d totally watch Twilight with me.”

“Of course she did,” I mumble. Then louder, “My dad doesn’t have the same humour as my mom, but I do appreciate you trying. I’m sorry if I’m being a Debbie Downer.”

“No,” he says, grabbing onto my hand. “You’ve done nothing wrong — that’s all me. I’ll get better at this whole werewolf thing, I swear! You’ve just got to be patient with me.”

“I suppose I’ve never really considered how you might feel about this. For the longest time I was scared you’d leave me because of what I am, so to have you here, going over to my parents house for Sunday dinner and knowing I’m a werewolf, well… it’s just a lot to handle. I guess what I’m trying to say is thank you for being patient with me, too.”

Korren grins. “I love you, you know that? So much. Not even you being a werewolf could change that.”

“Yeah?”

“Yeah.”

“How about if I was broccoli? Would you love me then?”

“I plead the fifth.”

Our laughter follows us all the way home.

—

All my life, I’ve never imagined this day would come.

And yet, here it is.

Here I am, doing the final touches of my makeup and getting ready to slip into my wedding dress.

It feels unreal, as if I’m living another person’s life. As if by the end of tonight, I’ll be the person I’ve always wanted to be, with the person I’ve always wanted.

In a way, it’s nerve wracking, but at the same time it’s exhilarating. Part of me wants to find Korren early and elope, which is ridiculous considering the actual wedding is only hours away.

Still, those hours feel like an eternity, and I feel more reckless than I’ve ever felt before.

“Excited?” My mother asks, coming up and hugging me from behind.

I nod. “Very.”

“Nervous?”

I grin. “Is it that obvious?”

A faraway glint enters her eyes. “I was just like that when I married your father. Best decision of my life, mind you, but for those few moments leading up to it I was absolutely scared shitless. Thought I’d throw up right then and there. Luckily, your father’s about the most patient man I know. And, well, who could say no to that body?”

“Mom!” I exclaim in disgust. “Seriously?? I did not need to know that!”

She laughs. “Sorry. Sorry. My point is that Korren is absolutely wonderful and you’re both going to make each other so happy.”

I smile at her through the mirror, watching my mother’s eyes well up with tears as she smiles back.

“You can’t cry,” I remind her. “Or else I’ll cry, too.”

She wipes her eyes, laughing lightly. “Well, we can’t have that, now can we?”

She takes the comb from the vanity and runs it through my hair just as she did when I was younger, asking for pigtails and pink butterfly clips. It’s so reminiscent of my childhood that I want to cry.

I grasp her hand, halting her movements. “Thank you,” I tell her. Thank you for being here. Thank you for brushing my hair even now, years later and fully grown.

Thank you for giving me a life I never thought I’d be able to live.

“I’m your mother,” she says simply. “It’s what we do.”

—

“We’re married,” I whisper to Korren in the darkness of the brimming night.

And under the glow of the open window, he turns to me, smiling softly.

“We’re married.”

It’s the best feeling in the world.

The hero looks at his blade, and falters. "Huh?! It's not-" he slaps the the side of the blade "work dammit!"

The wolf man looks up at the hero "wh-?"

"Silence beast! Just, give me a second!" He points the dull blade back at the creature, but the blade still doesn't do anything "agh! What's going on?! Why isn't it working?! What did you do?!"

"I-I didn't do anything! I swear!"

"Then why is my blade so dull?! It's supposed to sharpen in presence of evil!"

"E-evil? What? Can you not just-.... sh-sharpen it?"

"No, you can't just 'sharpen it'! It won't work"

"Can I try?" The wolf man slowly stands up

"What?! No!" He brings the dull blade down on the wolf man, causing him to stagger backwards

"Owww! What did I do to you?! To anyone?!"

The hero stops, lowering his blade "you uh-... ummm... you uh, scared people?"

The wolf scoffs "You're the first thing even remotely person shaped I've seen in the past year catboy. You sure this isnt some bias since im a wolf?"

"Um, yeah-! Or uh... n-not really, actually... sorry"

"Idiot" the wolf man scoffs and walks off
