Washington Gas filed for a rate increase in VA back in June that went into effect on Nov 26th. That shouldn't have resulted in a 300% increase (the increase was closer to 10%) but it's certainly part of it.

Take a look at your bill, it should have a breakdown on how much is from various distribution charges vs energy prices (the cost for the gas itself) which can help you see where the jump came from.

Yeah, 75% of all excess natural gas in the US was rerouted to Europe in March to assist the Germans, Belgians, Frence and Scandinavians build a stockpile for this winter now that they aren’t getting it from Russia.

That’s not a problem for Americans in the summer when our heating demand is low. Once winter hits however, it drives the price of the remaining gas into the stratosphere.

Yeah they did seem to be inconsistent on certain menu items. That’s frustrating. I think my biggest complaint was they didn’t really change their menu to add seasonal drinks, I’m such a sucker for those.

I actually think compass coffee is trash, I preferred to wait for Philz for a better cup of coffee but I’m clearly a minority on that opinion. Any coffee Ive tried at the ballston compass has been overly syrupy. The pumpkin spice latte was straight up bright orange 🤣

I made the hike past Compass and Union Kitchen because they had a Vegan breakfast sandwich. Until they suddenly didn’t and had no idea when or if it would be back. It always seemed to be busy but I stopped going because that to me was the appeal and they had no idea if it would ever happen again despite it still being advertised.

Well they take 10-15min to make a coffee and are in a weird location. Plus there is a compass coffee and multiple other places across the street that brews almost as if not better coffee within minutes. No wonder they closed.
