Yes. They wear pneumatic over trousers which compress the legs in high g manoeuvres to keep the blood in the upper body and brain. Pilots are also trained to clench the core and hold their breath to keep pressure up.

Don’t fighter pilots or astronauts do the same thing with their suits to resist passing out from g forces?

All excellent explanations.
In short. There is no halo to measure. It's 'just' refraction that makes you see a halo. Same as the rainbow. It's a trick of the light. 'Smoke and mirrors' but done by nature.
Here's a video. Not about halos but about rainbows but the explanation is the same.

Once had an injury on my left index finger and had to get stitches. I anticipated the pain by focusing my senses on it. Was then congratulated for being very stoic.

It could probably kill a dog too if endurance in heat was a factor since we have the benefit of heat regulation through perspiration that dogs don't have.

It should be noted the amount of cardiovascular exertion humans are capable of would kill basically any other organism that isn't a dog.

Yeah. That's not the same thing. You were simply using your cheeks to store air, not genuinely continuously breathing like some birds can.

It’s a shame the article sums it up in this misconstrued way. Thanks for your explanation. Svante Pääbo is definitely my scientific hero :)
