The Platyhelminthes (or flatworms) might be what you're looking for. They have no circulatory system, instead relying on diffusion through their skin and tissues to obtain the oxygen they need and expel waste CO2. They also have no respiratory organs, nor blood, lymph, or any other body fluid...the simple flatness of their bodies is sufficient to ensure that oxygen can reach their innermost cells. But they do have a primitive brain, a two-lobed cortex of nerve cells and a core of nerve fibers that take in sensory information and coordinate movement for the rest of the body.

Reply to When a volcano erupts, does this affect the pressure building up in other volcanoes? by Rhamni
So how about indirectly causing a chain reaction of multiple volcanos...
I am thinking of an earthquake on a large fault (say the cascadia fault) setting off multiple volcanos along the fault line. Or would a volcano going off always lower the stresses on connected faults?

A much better example is penguins, dolphins, and sharks all having very similar appendages for swimming, or birds, bats, and butterflies all having wings.

Thanks so much for this explanation! And the links you provided have more information than last I looked into it. (Though I don’t have access to the paper after leaving academia, I can probably get it.)
I have a couple stories about the 1937 eruption and they have oral history of older eruptions as well. It’s really interesting to me to understand more of the science behind the volcanos. Cheers!

Reply to When the Andromeda and Milky Way galaxies combine; will the super black holes in both galaxies eventually combine because of gravitational pull? by TrumpedUpStupidity
Sure. With only the two black holes it would take an extremely long time because they would just orbit each other with a little bit of energy loss to gravitational waves, but the black holes will also fly through all the other material in the merging galaxies, which slow them down relative to each other. That gets them closer together. It could still take a very long time, however.
