I'd like to go fishing. I haven't been fishing since I lived on Pleasure Island back in North Carolina. Is the harbor ok for sport or sustenance fishing? Is anything in that water safe to eat? 😆

I personally would not - the Jones Falls (which feeds into the harbor) historically has had an issue with sewage runoff. There is also a ton of industrial pollutants in the sediment, including stuff from a chromium plant.
If you don't mind driving a bit there's a ton of good spots in the area - a lot of people fish right below the Conowingo Dam (go when they are running water through the turbines), also Sandy Point State Park. MD DNR also does a lot of trout stocking, I'm at work so I can't provide specific locations, but if you look on their website you should be able to find it. Lastly I would say go and get a fishing licence, I would imagine any body of water you need a permit, it's just that enforcement is spotty.
I think you need a license but what are the odds a DNR cop rolls up to check?
I’ve seen people keep their catch out at North Point, but idk seems suss.
Canton Waterfront requires no license. Pretty sure it's even labeled as such on MD DNR.
I’ve had DNR check my license three time in three years. Considering that they can confiscate your equipments if you’re not properly licensed, that’s enough to keep me up to date

Here’s the trout stocking link. You can eat the trout at any of the stocked sites because they usually aren’t there to pick up anything that would sicken you. I like to fish Lake Elkhorn in Columbia and Centennial Lake in Ellicott City. I’ve caught bluegill as well as bass there.
Visit Tocherman's, on Eastern Ave. for advise and fishing gear
Opening day of trout season is tomorrow! They stock thousands of trout throughout the state. Maps on the DNR website. Good luck!
Interesting... blue crab mustard is an avoid. I never liked it but I have met a few folks who thought it tasted good.
Those people are psychopatbs
You can fish the harbor but I wouldn’t eat anything out of there. Maybe a smaller, legal rockfish since they are so migratory. Tons of fish to be caught though. Definitely go to Tochtermans and check out r/marylandfishing
There's a waterfront park in Essex, Cox's Point. And you don't need a fishing license on their grounds. Also has a Pier and a few bank spots.
The real psychos are the ones who eat the gills
I see people fishing/crabbing at and around the Middle Branch park by the boathouse, port Covington and harbor hospital. There’s docks and piers. Hell I see people on Patapsco and Potee street pulled over on the side of the road off the bridge lol
I eat everything. Don't get your hands in the way 😂

I see folks catch and keep at the fishing pier at Canton Waterfront Park. One guy told me you don’t even need a fishing license. Sat for about a 2-3 hour boozy picnic in the park and saw some decent sized striped bass coming out and going into buckets.
I don’t know the legality of any of this. This is just an observation.
