If any of you have seen a movie at the Charles Theatre then you know about the promo video for the theater between the trailers and the movie. It’s an adorable dog going into the theatre to watch a movie.

After 5+ years I’m leaving Baltimore soon and that theatre has been a cornerstone of my time here. I’d love to take something with me to remember it. I really want a poster of the last image of the dog sitting in the seats looking up at the screen.

I tried calling the theatre, but they gave me a weird vague answer about how it’s “been so long” and they “don’t really do that” even when I offered to pay or just for the name of the film maker.

I’d really love to connect with the film makers behind this promo or otherwise get access to the still so I can make a poster to bring with me. I’m more than happy to pay for their time and material.

Anyone have any suggestions?

EDIT: huge thanks to all of y’all for the suggestions and help! I can’t believe this worked! Big thanks to u/fixitinpost for making such an amazing promo and being so kind and generous with your work!

Also, I love you Humble ❤️

Lots of videos like that are made by local college students. Not sure about that one.

I super appreciate your drive to go about this "the right way," first off! That said, if you really cannot achieve that, and it's still running during the previews, just go one last time (or have a friend) and take a picture of the screen at that moment.

I think that one was made by Stevenson or MICA students in their film programs, so that’s a place to start. That said, it’s definitely still running before almost every film I see there (I go about once a week) so pick a film and snap a photo. I don’t think the film students who have graduated by now would begrudge you.

Found it! Looks like it was made by Dormouse Films. I found the LinkedIn for the guy, so I'll PM it to you.

I’ll preface this by saying I’ve never seen that promo before, but I just watched it on Vimeo and I gotta say… my dog is a near identical match to it. Insanely close. He’s super friendly too and even has a red collar. Idk if this is weird or not but if you want to meet up at a coffee shop and stage a picture you’re more than welcome to (admittedly I’d be cooler if you could find the real dog)

I enjoy that promo. "Hey, nice to see you!" He gets some popcorn. It bothers me how much left over there is on his collar.

I love the Johns Waters smoking one. I don't think they play it any more, or I've just missed it on rotation.

The one of all the people sitting in the row with the drumming and the clown bothers me. It doesn't make sense. I think they should have just had a row with people making tons of noise, then the movie starts and they all go instantly silent. Then the text comes up, "please no 'blah blah blah' during the movie". Instead, they have the "normal" guy say "quiet down" and then they all shush him. It doesn't make sense. Why are they shushing him? Are we supposed to understand that they're comfortable with general noise, as long as it's not speaking? Are they all together (a clown AND a drummer?) and ganging up on him? If he's not with them, why are they all sitting in the same row? He's like one guy against 6. He'd be better off getting an usher. I think this one is from Stevenson and makes me lose respect for their film school.

It's my wife's dog, and she's getting in touch with the filmmaker for you. Also if you'd like to just screen grab from the video itself... here it is!! https://vimeo.com/313706968

FYI her name is Humble! :)

There are lots of places online that will make an image into a poster.

That Promo still makes me cry EVERYTIME I go to The Charles. COVID took one of my favorite experiences away and that little short truly captures that spark of magic a movie theater brings. I'm so glad the community was able to find it so quickly! Thank you to everyone involved!!

I was always curious about the street car that said “westmoreland” on it at the beginning. Did that used to be a stop in Baltimore and if not where is it? Is that streetcar from the museum on Jones Falls?

Hey everybody, again thanks for all your praise. It really means a lot. Making "Dog Day Matinee" (aka Humble Sees a Movie) was a blast and it's heartening to find out it has so many fans!

So, while I'm pretty comfy with photo & video, I don't know anything about graphic design, so I've just made a post over in r/graphic_design asking for some help in putting together a poster with some of the visual assets that I have in hopes of creating a handsome Charles Theater Humble poster.

I don't have any interest in physically printing these out or selling them for money. Ideally we can post the finished product here on reddit and y'all can go to a print-shop, photo lab or even a Kinkos.

Here is a link to the post I just made. I posted a few assets there to give us a head start. If any of y'all want to give it a shot, please be my guest. Love you Baltimore.
