That actually seems to be the gaining consensus is that the pipes just froze even though we had ours dripping but all that wind and cold temperatures may have affected it

My husband and I were in the same boat as you 7 years ago (I had an offer near Union Station in DC, he had an offer around BWI). We ended up in Mount Vernon, Baltimore and it was absolutely the right decision for us. The Penn line is super dependable and frequent, and I think I had an easier/more pleasant commute than many of my colleagues who took the metro (I'm full time remote now). Obviously Baltimore is more affordable, but I also like the vibe is much more down to earth than DC. Mount Vernon is super charming, great arts scene, and some excellent bars and restaurants.
We moved from a small city in the midwest, so crime was definitely on our minds too, but I honestly don't feel any less safe than I do in any other major city. I actually am more on edge in DC, but that's maybe just because my work is right by a homeless encampment.

Yes we called, they said that there was no cancellation and no reported stoppages in the area however my neighbor had lost water and had recently regained it so I'm believing now it's just a frozen pipe issue however there have been reports of local areas like Morell Park and also to West Side that have had water main breaks but no one has come back out Merry Christmas and thanks for your response

If the pipes run close to an outside wall, that will be the problem. Find the problem pipes and use a hair dryer to warm them up. Copper transfers heat fairly quickly.

Still kinda figuring that out. Typically into nerdy stuff, video games, ttrpgs, etc. Movies, soccer, Frisbee. Also used to enjoy checking out breweries with my wife, so may be worth looking for a group to do that with.
Just haven't really been that socially active since college, so not sure how to try and make friends.

The best places would be in the PG County area near or close to New Carrollton Train station. The MARC, AMTRAK and METRO is there and it's pretty safe with parking.

Live Uptown like in Brightwood or Takoma, DC or Silver Spring for easier access to the highway. Your partner can take the Red line to Capitol Hill.

Abell reports are a fantastic way to examine some of the very entrenched, yet solvable problems Baltimore faces.
It’s worth reading their recent report on the RAD Program, which is part of the city’s long-term strategy to reduce its high-rise public housing stock.

Do you know how to hook up a generator to your gas heating system?

Yeah, definitely frozen pipes. We left our water dripping last night and still woke up to ours frozen. A couple of other people on my street have also said theirs are frozen today, and I'd imagine it's the same for others in the neighborhood and wider area.

Yeah my biggest worry, and a big reason I stayed home, was the pipes. I have steam radiators so I wasn't so worried about those... I found out that the igniter on my gas boiler won't let me manually ignite the pilot though.

Same! Hopefully it stays that way, but I'm recharging everything just in case.

Power just came back, but for future reference are they cool with pets? I was thinking about that for me and my dog today, of the power didn't come back.

I know what you mean I had to live in a hotel for a couple months in Columbia. I would walk my dog in the adjacent neighborhoods and wouldn’t see a single person outside.

Be careful if you go out, I called 311 for salt on Wilkens and Unetta where I saw the water leaks freezing. It’s still very icy on some spots.
Is the water out for the others on your block? My water is on but there are definitely leaks under the roads because the water is coming up. Did you call 311 to report it?

On here in Pikesville but was out for about 4-6 hours yesterday and had a couple brown outs today. But we’re trying to do our part and keep our electricity usage to a minimum to ease the strain.
