one of my neighbors leaves his outside all the time. it was crying last few days. he had it out friday night when it was single digits. short of calling the police on the owners i have done everything i can to try and get some help for that dog but neither hoa or animal control wants to do shit. the sad thing is there's so many people who see what is happening and they all are dog owners so it's sad.

how that dog survives is beyond me.

Call 311. Report an abandoned animal and where you think the sound is coming from.

Call BARCS directly. Report an abandoned animal.

Call animal control. Report an abandoned animal.

Worst that happens is that they blow you off, but with the cold the way it is, it’s more likely someone will come to attempt to locate the dog.

I hope they help you; and I hope this dog gets inside. :/

Well, the child was found unharmed. I don't know if it was due to the 4am alert or the one in the afternoon. Either way, it sounds like the system worked.

That truly does suck about your fire alarm though. But again it's another system designed to alert you to the emergency.

As someone from the DMV proper, who moved to Baltimore 2 years ago, it is two VERY separate places. 😂 It’s a short drive (most places are within an hour or a little more) but don’t expect DMV friends to make the trip north. My friends and family act like I live in a different time zone. 🤦🏾‍♀️ I am usually the one that heads down instead of the other way around. DMV is typically within the Capital Beltway (not to be confused with the Beltway in Baltimore which most ppl just call 695) so it includes all of DC, some of MD and some of VA. Nowadays ppl try to squeeze anything in the DMV including southern MD and central VA. But it isn’t. Anyway, welcome to Bmore. It’s weird but great. We like it. 🤷🏾‍♀️

I’m old now so I can only share about what I learned about when I moved to the city and what I have heard.

  1. Sports clubs: there are a lot of transplants in Baltimore and this seems to be the best place to start (all types and all skill levels)

  2. Classes: If you’re into art there are a lot of options, especially with the good collection of schools and MICA

  3. Volunteer: A previous poster mentioned BARCS, which is an amazing org. As a city with a lot of challenges there are a lot of opportunities to volunteer across Baltimore.

  4. Meetup: Several people I know mentioned meetup pre pandemic, I’m too old to know if that’s still a thing.

  5. Breweries: I love Baltimore’s row house bars, but they can have less turnover. Several breweries like Peabody, checkerspot, union, full tilt, ministry of brewing, guilford hall and others have bigger spaces with lots of folks.

  6. Running and cycling: Charm city run hosts group runs and Baltimore Bike Party is a great way to see the city with drinks afterwards

  7. Neighborhood Events: Baltimore is like a European city with lots of small neighborhoods. Get on the fb groups (I know, fb) for your neighborhood and surrounding ones, you’ll see a lot of events.

Most of the top recommendations are, unfortunately, probably going to be full on reservations. Especially at prime time slots.

Thames Street Oyster House does walk ins. The lobster roll is phenomenal. $150 seems very doable unless you go overboard with the raw bar and/or alcohol. Cinghiale has some availability. Bluebird has some availability and does walk ins at the bar. Jong Kak would be a good time.

If you're up for a bit of an adventure you could go to Zahav in Philly as they used to take walk ins promptly at 5pm. But you need to get there early as there will be a line. They're currently doing a $75 prix fixe menu and their food is absolutely awesome. The menu was bigger pre-COVID but it seems to still include many of the hits, particularly the pomegranate lamb shoulder.

I definitely suggest calling to verify NYE hours if you cannot score a reservation online.
