You don't qualify if you make over 60k.

I'd literally save money every year if I took a small pay cut... My taxes are going to be like $500 a month soon for a less than 1000 sqft house on a busy noisy street. I think they are pulling a lot of comps from the quieter surrounding blocks. Guess I need to try and appeal.

If you have the reference numbers, you can 311 and they can give you an update and that vehicle.

When calling, you can say “I’d like to check on the status of my service request. Would you mind looking up the details in the Salesforce system for me please?”.

This will get you the most information.

Catonsville is very "inner suburb" or "edge of the city" kind of vibe. I absolutely love it. Safe, mostly quiet, but still tons of stuff that's walkable, a cohesive community and neighborhood, but also very diverse. Not as many "young" people here but you'll find younger folk in Parkville and Towson, I think.

Most parts of Baltimore County that are right off the Beltway are pretty nice and even some are affordable. But I'd stay away from Dundalk.

A communications manager position I interviewed for at MDOT was around $90K. In fact, most government work pays at least a little above the median if not more. Most federal jobs pay quite well especially for the metro region.

It's not government work, but rather Baltimore City government work. We have an exodus of our residents, thus our tax base, thus our funding for government workers.

I successfully appealed and won multiple times. My best advise is when you go meet with the assessor, you need to come in with evidence to support your suggested value. In each instance, they asked me what I thought it was worth. By evidence, I mean assessed values of comparable homes, recent sale prices of comparable homes, comparable homes currently on the market for your target value. Everyone has heard “location location location” so the comparable homes need to be in your area. Print off your evidence and bring it with you and as long as your evidence is solid and your suggested value is reasonable I suspect you will win.

At $6,000 this is unfortunately just above the limit of small claims court. It might be worth going that route and trying to settle to do mediation. Worst case scenario, you’re out $1,000 after you reclaim the $5,000 limit. Which sucks, no doubt, but it’s better than being out $6,000. You might also want to look around for lawyers who provide you with some free consults.

I took the Baltimore County safety course and just want to share from the class (and personal experience with those i’m close with) narcan often needs to be used more than once per overdose situation. DO NOT Narcan someone and leave- wait for EMS because they very well may need additional doses.

The little known secret about Baltimore City finances is that property tax revenue has been and will be exploding in the next few years. Median home sale price in Baltimore shot up by a crazy percentage, and that trend actually started before the pandemic, then accelerated during the pandemic.

Remember that ballot question about cutting the property tax rate? Well, we could really cut the rate by a significant percentage once these new assessments take effect. The reason the rate is so high now is because real estate in Baltimore has traditionally been assessed so low.

I wouldn’t recommend it. Towson is college-y and when the kids are gone it’s kind of dead. The bars are kind of grimy and the food scene is not all that great.

The rest of the county can have some good food and bars but it’s mostly middle-aged people and families.

I would stick to the city to have more options.
