Just a reminder that the Annabel Lee Tavern will probably be closing at the end of January or early February! If you haven't been to Annabel Lee Tavern you must go before it's Nevermore!

AND when you go please order the famous cocktail named after me...the Jeff Jerome delicious cocktail! I always order two of them when I go there! It's the perfect hot drink for winter weather!

Enjoy!

I took the Light Rail the other day from Camden to Timonium for a doctor’s appointment. It was honestly fantastic, and Kaiser was super smart putting the new building right next to the Light Rail stop. I wish there was more transit-oriented development with the Light Rail.

The downtown stretch really is the worst part, but I don’t mind it having to deal with red lights - the one in the post picture also has to. I think if Howard St was pedestrianized it would be far better for all parties.

The only other issue is that trains aren’t going nearly often enough. To generate good usage, three things are needed: location, regularity, consistency. Sometimes you can make up for consistency by having more trains, so a delay for one or missing one doesn’t hurt as much. I want to say the Light Rail is every ~20-30 minutes; it really should be every 15 at max.

Also, weekend and night service should be expanded. And maybe officially make the Light Rail free (most people hop on and off without paying anyway!)

Yeah most homes in Baltimore were constructed pre 1950. There may be several homes under the $200K price point in "desirable" neighborhoods, but will need significant renovations or upkeep in the coming years. Your point still does not address the fact that equity firms are buying up properties at a rapid pace in this city and it is getting worse. This objective fact can also be verified.

I mean, as someone who loves Boggle, there isn't really any Game Theory to it. It's closer to track and field than it is to chess.

Societally, landlords provide a negative function and as a class impede home ownership for millions of people in the U.S. alone. It is generally passive income. I’m not saying that you don’t have to replace a sink or paint or maintain a roof. Yes, of course, these are all things that need to be done to keep a home livable. What I’m saying is that overall, the world would be much better off if we lived in a world where people could afford a 1200 mortgage instead of being told that they don’t qualify and are forced to rent for 2k. Landlords are so low in this broken system, but nonetheless they leech off of people the same way bankers at jp Morgan or BOA do, just less successfully. All landlords are parasites that take advantage of a system that exploits lower classes. Just like all cops participate in a racist judicial system. It doesn’t matter if you’re “one of the good ones.” You’re complicit. So your crocodile tears about putting up dry wall or caulking a tub don’t really inspire my sympathies.
