Introduce a bounty program. If you’re the first 3 to report a car illegally parked in a bike lane you get an award when it is ticketed. Award like $10 to first, $7 to second, and $3 to third. Then raise the cost of the violation by $20. People would go nuts hunting for these cars.

My fiance and I went browsing for vintage rings in Ellicot City. She found one she liked. We then went to a jewelry store, and they custom made a similar ring (but sized correctly and with the details she wanted). It turned out amazing! Unfortunately, the ring was never "used" because we did not end up getting married. Now, that ring sits in a drawer, just waiting for me to sell it at a 60% loss. Such is life!

Next time you go by look at the intersection right at Maryland. There are almost always 3 cars: an illegally parked tow truck, and a red Lexus and a black car blocking crosswalks. All three rotate different plates or have no plates depending on the day. There's a 4th Volkswagen that normally parks by the hydrant or the other no stopping zone.

Remington resident and attendee of the meeting. I appreciate the apology. However, I would more greatly appreciate a prompt commitment to making sure this project happens before the window for the grant funding closes.

It would also be a more meaningful apology if it were followed up with DOT taking GRIA's neighborhood-wide requests for traffic calming seriously. We have significant problems with speeding and reckless driving on side/residential streets as well, especially in South Remington. It's frustrating to see more well-off streets like Cresmont receive speed humps while less well-off residential streets in South Remington get ignored, despite multiple serious recent accidents like cars flipping upside down and out-of-control vehicles crashing into houses.

I tend to see different cars each time and usually with license plates. I assumed it would be harder to combat since it's many rotating illegal parkers, rather than a few sitting long-term. Maybe we're talking about different places? Or maybe usage depends on the time of day?

Remington resident, former pedestrian casualty and meeting attendee here. Thank you very much for this! It goes a long way towards getting BCDOT on a more productive footing with our community so we can get this done.

The opportunity to connect Reservoir Hill to the rest of the city in a way that is navigable without a car is transformative and would be a huge win.

I lived in another city where some sections of bike lane were inside the street parking area and separated by a small concrete curb. It mostly worked to keep the bike lane clear, but occasionally you'd see a car parked in the bike lane instead of parking. I think that was mainly confusion because it wasn't marked super well. If you're new to the city and there aren't any cars parked already to show where the parking is I could see someone being confused about where to park.
