Request to add my enforcement idea: after your car gets towed/ticketed for multiple blocking a bike lane violations, you get a loaner bike to commute with for x months until your car comes out of impound. You get the car out of impound at No or reduced cost when you return the bike in good condition.

Please don't recommend this in Baltimore. It works in nice places, but here they will half-ass it and make things worse. The implementation that this idea is based off of can be found throughout Europe has two important factors:

  1. The "inside" bike lane is separated from the cars by an actual barrier.
  2. They clean the bike lane.

These cost money, however, so in Baltimore we skip them and keep only the easy parts of the plan.

Without #2, the bike lane is literally a gutter, where tree limbs, broken bottles, needles, and chicken bones collect. You can't ride in a month after they build it.

Without #1, people just park right next to the bike lane (on top of the painted lines or plastic bollards). This makes an "inside" bike lane far more dangerous than an "outside" bike lane. If someone opens the door on you while you're in an "inside" bike lane, you have two choices: hit the curb and die, or hit the car and die. If someone opens the door on you in an "outside" bike lane, you have two choices: hit the car and die, or swerve into traffic and only maybe die. Your odds are greatly improved! This sounds sarcastic because of how terrible everything is but sadly I am serious.

I was in a similar situation. When I lived in the burbs I visited more neighborhoods within Baltimore. I had to drive and the time difference between Hampden, Fells, and Canton (as random examples) is negligible compared to the commitment of actually having to get into the car. The fact that I had to drive was the annoying part, not necessarily the parking or commute time to a specific neighborhood.

Since I've been in Fed Hill for some time I spend a disproportionately larger amount of time within south Baltimore. Convenience is king and for day to day stuff there's really not much being offered by other neighborhoods to make it worth visiting them. The value proposition of ubering to bars and restaurants in other neighborhoods is usually just not there, unless you're going to a nice place. For the random "I'm hungry right now and don't have time to cook" situation there's zero reason to leave the neighborhood.

Couldn’t agree more. When I lived downtown, it was really nice to be central to everything. We spent time in Fed, LP, Station North, MV, Fells, inner harbor, even Charles Village. We had to leave DT to do much of anything. Now that I am in upper fells, I do not leave fells.

It was really great for where we were in our lives and wanting to explore more of the city. But now I’m content with my little corner of Baltimore.

It’s centrally located. You’re close to a bunch of bars/Resturtants. In the immediate area, and then you located on transit lines for MTA, the circular, harbor water connector, and near metro subways station(Charles Center). I know people that live across the street at 10 light and they seem to like it. There close to their jobs in CBD and and take short rides to go out in mount Vernon, South/SE Baltimore.

Have you used one? The apps restrict where you can park them, you have to take a picture of them to verify and if you park them improperly the user gets fined. What can the scooter company do to prevent a random drunk pedestrian from picking up a parked scooter and tossing them in the harbor?

Hi there! I hope this is an appropriate place to post this question. Does anyone know of a good website or way to post an ad looking for people to play music with? Im in my 40s and play guitar poorly but want to find other adults to casually get together once a week with and band out covers and maybe write some songs. I’m into indie, punk, Alt, shoegaze, Britpop, glam, you name it. I’ve tried Craigslist but nothing has ever panned out. Thanks for any suggestions!

Implementing fines for the environmental pollution, for the improper storage, for the road hazards they present for drivers when left on the streets. If companies can’t keep track of the tools they use to make transportation easier because it’s cheaper to just replace them then they should be made cost prohibitive to operate within the city until another company that prioritizes that can

What do you propose the city do to the scooter companies? They have paid for a permit to operate in the city to provide transportation. They already don't want their scooters in the harbor to begin with as it is a loss of revenue and then they have to pay to replace the scooter. The company itself isn't the ones tossing them into the harbor.
