Aside from the left-turn issue, two-way bike lanes are usually fine because you can swerve a little to avoid surprises there, too. I was specifically talking about the one-way lanes on the inside like the ones they had to bulldoze on Roland ave. I believe those stats.

While crashes tend to be slightly higher at intersections on our two way protected facilities because the city is too cowardly to ban left turns, serious injury and fatal crashes are worse on roads with standard or no facilities and ridership is also much higher on the separated infrastructure.

It might depend on the kinds of things you want to be close to. There’s a nearby grocery store that is pretty good (walkable) and plenty of good restaurants around in Mt Vernon (10-15 min walk). It’s convenient for getting to various neighborhoods - just a short bus to fed hill, Hampden, and Fells. It’s probably not the best neighborhood if you are real into bar nightlife. As an older non-drinker, I love living downtown.

I like this. I’d certainly be interested in participating and helping cultivate such a network. My contribution would be 25+ years of experience as a professional woodworker. I have a nice shop that I’ve been using to help teach others how to make their projects, and I’m always looking for ways to expand that model. Side note: I have no interest in becoming an Open Works or Station North Tool Library. I like making stuff, and I REALLY like empowering others to do the same- under close supervision.
