That’s how Hopkins does it. You’ll get paid extra if you pick up an extra shift of course but not if you have to stay late (ex: next shift was late, patient coded, etc). You also work an average of 40 hours per week instead of 36. IIRC this works out to for every 6-week scheduling period, you have to work 2 additional shifts than you would if you were 36 hours. They also only pay out half of what your PTO is worth when you quit. That sucked.

I had a decent experience there as a new grad. I liked the residency program, my nurse manager was great, and my coworkers were happy to teach. Nice to have Hopkins on my resume but they’re not a great employer.

Loyola isn’t in a suburb—it’s more north in the city and can sometimes feel suburban, but there’s a good amount to do in the area. If you live a bit closer to Hopkins, there’s tons to walk to. I’ve lived in the area for almost 7 years and went to Loyola for undergrad—it’s a nice place to be

Call either Greenleaf Construction or Turner Troxell. Both do custom building and renovation. Generally work in Ruxton, Roland Park, Towson. They do great work and always have sharp guys working for them. I drive a tractor trailer delivering building material to both and you cant go wrong if you get on with them. Hope this was helpful.

NPR is so far left in its constant pandering it’s become a total joke. All while being funded by “think tanks”, pharmaceutical companies and defense contractors. Let not even pretend you are getting fair and balanced news reporting. It’s a shame, I was once a huge fan but it slowly digressed into the soft spoken anti-Fox. It’s easier to see if you don’t belong to the left or the right tribe.

Not sure if JH moves different, but I'm state employed and a non-exempt employee. The status relates to your FLSA employment status. From my experience:

Exempt means you are exempt from the Fair Labor and Standards act and don't get paid overtime. Instead, you are eligible to get comp time. Generally paid a fixed salary.

Non-exempt means you are eligible to get paid overtime if you work more than 80 hours in your pay period. Generally paid by the hour.

So if your offer says you are exempt from overtime, it means you won't get time and a half if you work more hours than youre supposed to. You'll just earn bankable time off in the future. Usually certain positions are exempt and non-exempt. For example. Most higher up positions will be exempt because they don't get paid hourly. More administrative/clerical jobs are non-exempt because they get paid by the hour and aren't required to work more than their standard 40 hours a week. It would make sense that a nurse position would be exempt because its pretty common that you all will work more than 40 hours a week, thus costing the hospital a ton of money in overtime costs.

TRIVIA AT THE GUINNESS BREWERY - 7PM ON THURSDAYS (MARCH ONLY)

If you're looking to do something different this month, or you just want another excuse to visit the Guinness Brewery in March, then consider checking out my one of my trivia games on either March 9th, March 16th or March 23rd.

Our first game of this series was last Thursday and we had 31 teams join us. We start at 7PM and look to be fully wrapped before 9PM (so we don't keep you hanging out all night). The March series of games are hosted in the 'Irish Village' which they build just for the St. Patrick's Day season. It's a very cool set up. In addition the game is free to play, there is free onsite parking, and we have prizes for the Top 3 teams.

As for my games, I am an independent trivia host/writer living here in Baltimore (originally from Ireland). I had a lot of success with online games during the pandemic and Guinness convinced me to go back to doing in-person trivia in 2022. I still offer online trivia (www.walshtrivia.com) but my only other in-person game each week is a small but popular Tuesday game at Wicked Sisters in Hampden which is usually fully booked out. Guinness is obviously much bigger and a different feel, but people seem to really enjoy the games, so if you enjoy trivia, or you just wanna try something with a little extra Irish authenticity this month, then I'd love to have you check it out.

7PM game time and come say hi tomorrow if you saw this on Reddit!

That is a singular example in a sea of bullshit exampled as recently as 2021's Newsom recall campaign which did nothing more than cost the state hundreds of millions on that pointless stupidity.

Edit: adding source for cost -> https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2022-02-03/california-recall-election-cost-200-million-dollars
