trouble with a lot of those is how inflexible and demanding they are. i do not miss working BOH where every spare moment had my phone blowing up like "can you come in", my shifts never actually ended when the schedule said they would, and if i got scheduled for a day i couldn't work and couldn't find someone to cover for me i'd just get fired. like sure, it's work! but definitely not what i'd call a "side hustle". i definitely don't miss it.

Thanks for the suggestion of the Rotunda! And yes, the plan (if I decided to go with JHU) would be to live in Baltimore near the university for the first few years of coursework and then move to DC (which is, as cities go, very accessible) while writing the dissertation.

In general, I found that the campus was /reasonably/ accessible — there were ramps everywhere, but yeah sometimes you had to take a circuitous route. But then again, my standards for accessibility for academic buildings are in the gutter because my current program is housed in a landmarked building in NYC which has no accessible entrance, so even having a ramp is a breath of fresh air.

I started doing the research studies as a side hustle. Some of them pay $1500+. The cannabis ones are my favorite. It’s been a nice supplemental income so far

Along with waiting tables, consider working for a landscaping company. Either regular lawn service or a “tidy up the shrubs for Easter” company. Depending on which suits you better and better relieves the stress of regular life.

Go hang around Home Depot and pick up some work as a day laborer. Honest work, as opposed to most things you can do with most college educations.
