IANAL but I do know that Maryland does have some rules about victims' rights. I'm a bit surprised that they allow a court to void the dismissal of charges but I guess you learn something new every day.

Pragmatically I am glad that this means the decision about the dismissal goes to Ivan Bates. Mosby was such a garbage public official that the resolution of the Syed case would always have been suspect if the final decision was up to her. If Bates looks at the totality of the evidence and agrees that the charges should be dropped I'll have a much easier time accepting it.

oh, I gave this dude a ride a month or two ago. He gave me exactly the spiel you described. He was friendly enough, seemed down on his luck, and seemed generally harmless. I would have given him cash if I had some. Still would.

I don't think it's fair calling this a scam. He's asking for help. Does he need it? Maybe not. Is he taking advantage of people who are nice? Maybe. But like... okay? I don't mind giving someone a ride or a few bucks. If I did I wouldn't have said yes.

I really love City Pets in Federal Hill- we moved out of downtown and I tried a few other places (Mt. Washington and Belvedere) but ended up going back to City Pets- I don't know that they are cheaper necessarily but definitely always seem conscious of cost- they give the price before doing things and don't push or make you feel bad if you want to skip or wait on expensive things. https://www.citypetsvet.com

Agreed that it’s annoying & harmless - I think OP used “scam” over “beg” because it’s never just a straight up ask for money, it always comes with an attached fake story about how he was at Gallery Bar (which he’s changed now to Royal Blue) & his boyfriends car got towed. I’ve lived in Station North for 15 years and have encountered him many times & it’s always the same story.

Yeah, you can't argue with the success of the Ravens - although I'd like to see a little more success of the 2012 variety.

Nonetheless, the real rape of Baltimore came in taking away the team name and identity. It was as if some powerful people were determined to hurt Baltimore as malevolently as possible. And leave it with a football museum, as the estimable Paul Tagliabue, DC lawyer, wanted to do.

Of course now the Ravens have established their own identity, a cool Gothic one. But preserving the Colts identity would have created a link between Lamar Jackson, Joe Flacco, Ray Lewis, Ed Reed, Terrell Suggs, Ed Reed, etc., with Bert Jones, Johnny Unitas, Bubba Smith, Gino Marchetti, Raymond Berry, Art Donovan, and all the other Baltimore Colts.

So this foul deed by NFL management ripped away a unifying identity from Baltimore. It's as if it was part of a process of dismantling the city - they hoped. But Baltimore had other ideas, fought for and got a new football team, and is now still fighting for its existence as a city.

It leads into my idea for a city slogan: Baltimore - we have other ideas.

We can still see the anti-Baltimore bigotry at work. How often do we see a gloating tone over Ravens' setbacks, and only grudging respect when they prevail? Now, there's Lamar Jackson, and the media tut-tutting the evil Ravens management for not paying Lamar what he's asking.
