Nope

I'm involved in counseling for people with addictions. I've also spent personal time with these folks, on the streets of Baltimore.

You literally said that punishing people for drug crimes doesn't work.

If you ever actually cared about this issue you might actually do some volunteering or work to help people.

But you're talking about some magical solution of "safe spaces" and "national hamsterdam."

And you clearly didn't watch the wire because you'd know that Hamsterdam was an enormous shithole.

DIRECTV stream is what I used last year. It’s basically a cable package that includes MASN. I split it with a friend. The promotional deal last year was 70/mo for the first 3, then went up to 90. I ended up keeping it because it made it easier to watch any football I wanted to watch last year too.

Edit: currently 75/mo - https://www.directv.com/offers/directv-stream-directv-satellite/?source=EDIKDSL58V0SNE00P&wtExtndSource=directv+stream&ds_agid=58700008156365428&gclsrc=aw.ds&gbraid=0AAAAAoX5dNQ1yhD3KiCrgPKbP6MEaIpJz&gbraid=0AAAAAoX5dNQ1yhD3KiCrgPKbP6MEaIpJz&gclid=Cj0KCQjwiZqhBhCJARIsACHHEH9hFRj46NM9fcDMtIBEct8lt8hNg7fU90ubVdh0pVuDfC2z8FQZLMYaAtk_EALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds#dtv2-dtv-agnostic-plancards

I'd honestly be skeptical any singular program or policy could reduce gun violence in any major city by over 20%. If it's truly that effective it should be a nationwide model, especially considering the relatively low cost. 20% is a pretty staggering number for something like this.

You're arguing against a strawman, either intentionally or simply because you haven't bothered to educate yourself on what is happening in places like Portugal. Nobody is suggesting that we simply eliminate enforcement and call it a day.

This was the first thing I thought of as well. We're about a week into spring, I'm not sure that yard waste pickup collection has begun? I don't have a yard and what little yard waste we do collect (branches and the like) just goes in the regular trash.

“Baltimore’s flagship community violence intervention program, Safe Streets, has led to reductions in nonfatal shootings and homicides, according to a Johns Hopkins analysis of nearly 15 years of data.

In the neighborhoods served by the five Safe Streets sites that have been open four years or more, the analysis indicated there was an average of 22% fewer homicides than predicted. And across all sites, Safe Streets was associated with a 23% reduction in nonfatal shootings, researchers found.”

There have been a lot of people in this sub very critical of any approach to violence reduction that strays from dumping money into more police, so I’m curious how people feel now. Thoughts?
