C4 says good things for 2 minutes and then trash the other 58. I love how much history he knows and how much knowledge he has of the city and its happenings. But he funnels it all through his garbage filter and out come some of the dumbest things you could say. I get where he’s coming from and he seems like the type of person who could be swayed back to normalcy with some extended time with the folks he disparages, but mostly I just smh at him when I hear him.

We should care, these are the fascists. Or at least these are the the people the fascists are using as puppets. It’s fucking obvious for any thinking person. There was a great piece in The Atlantic recently about the Philippines that discussed how media can be used for disinformation to bring these types of people up.

Also see Rwanda circa 1994 and Bosnia circa 1995. This is not far-fetched. It’s minimized when people call it grifting, this is how evil happens, and I use that word as an atheist.

Hi. You just mentioned The Time Machine by HG Wells.

I've found an audiobook of that novel on YouTube. You can listen to it here:

I'm a bot that searches YouTube for science fiction and fantasy audiobooks.

In a weird way, the increase of violence in cities across America has helped Baltimore. We no longer seem to be an outlier. There is horrible shit happening everyday all over the country. Cities that had stellar reputations -like San Fran and Portland -get drug through the mud on a daily basis. Even NYC which has statistically much lower crime than the vast majority of cities has a horrible perception problem right now. The NYC suburbs are almost entirely responsible for flipping the House to the GOP. And crime is the reason why.

I’m a transplant from Detroit, definitely felt safer there as well, and it was less horrible to drive through than Baltimore, but I also hate city driving in any city so there’s that. Anecdotally, I’ve known way more people to have been victims of violent crime (self included) in Baltimore than in Detroit, but there are confounding factors for that that I don’t necessarily want to get into so just take it as you will.

Gotcha. I can see Philly being less friendly than Baltimore; others have mentioned that as well. At the same time, I had a friend living here in Patterson Park who moved down from Philly, who always talked about how unsafe she felt in PP and in Bmore, as a single woman, compared to living in Philly. I think in both cities violent crime is somewhat concentrated and perceptions of safety depend on how close you are to those concentrated areas, tho in Bmore due to the relative smallness, it's easier to be closer to crime. But I could be wrong, just my personal observation...

Yeah, I agree on the random violence part. Seems to be on par with other cities we usually get compared to. Actually, since the yuppie hordes haven’t taken over Baltimore’s majority-AA neighborhoods, there’s probably less of the stuff of the genre you hear about in DC- where fans are literally getting shot outside Nationals games and the like. (Can you imagine if that happened here? The reaction would be so different.)

There are a group of people that hang out around Gough and Register. If you don't mind being cat called, it should be ok. Parking sucks... it's oddly easy now, but I'm guessing it's because a lot of people moved out recently. (My two roommates, 3 neighbors... and that's just 30 meters of me, lol.) Lot of trucks going out, haven't seen anyone come in recently. Parking at night sucksss... I wouldn't go too far past Pratt on Register. Standard "living in the city" rules applies here. Also, just plan on someone stealing your package if you leave it out. Pratt Liquors will let you deliver there for a buck a package.

I'm actually pretty happy, I sometimes like to hate listen to wbal. I think it's important to get the other sides perspective here and there.

Most of the other folks on that station, while I vehemently disagree with them most of the time, I can at least see where they are coming from, and understand their arguments.

Kim was just a fucking idiot though. Get that shit off the airwaves.
