A very easy trail that goes through nature rather than neighborhoods or parks is the NCR trail. It’s an old railroad route so it’s flat and paved with gravel. It goes all the way to York PA if you want to do the whole thing (40 miles each way). There’s also plenty of parking at a bunch of the entrances. I usually start at the hunt valley entrance because it’s close to me and has a huge parking lot. Only downsides are it can get pretty crowded when it’s nice out and it’s an end to end trail rather than loop so you need to know when to turn around

As mentioned by others, Double Rock, North point, and Fort Howard are all great and I'd also add Leakin Park to that list. If you want to venture out a little further Annapolis Rocks is a great day hike near Frederick. Further out still is Old Rag Mountain which is in the Shenandoah Valley and is one of my favorite day hikes. This book has lots of good suggestions as well: 60 Hikes Within 60 Miles: Baltimore

I didn't know this was a thing until I bought my house. People do this on my street. When I moved in, the contractors the previous owner had working on the house left a huge can of their construction trash (which I had to haul away to the Reisterstown Road station myself, but that's another story) that smelled like death. I just knew I was going to find a dead animal in there.... nope: like 10 bags of dog poop. No telling how long they had been in there, either. After this, I learned to never leave my can in front of my house for an extended period of time beyond trash day itself. I work from home 85% of the time and always on trash day, so this has helped a lot. But the problem is the dumbasses who put the bagged poop in on trash day.

One day I was moving my car for street cleaning, and I "caught" a woman with her dog, putting bagged poop in someone's can. For some reason I thought it would be a guy. Wrong. Smh.

I put dryer sheets in the bottom of my can. They absorb (some) of the smell and some of the exploded bagged poop. Other than writing a message on top of your can, I'm not sure what to do. Think about the poor trash collectors: you're supposed to bag the trash... but now imagine them dumping your can of bagged trash and having to deal with literal bags of dogshit loose and possibly exploded in the can.

If you are someone who does this and you are reading this, yes, you are an asshole and also disgusting.

Fall, yes but now that it’s December not a lot of quad skaters. There’s still a few bladers. Shake and Bake is another closer skating rink that people frequent! It’s going to be hard to find distance skaters now that it’s cold, sadly.

Yo - just moved here too! I tried my luck on FB and actually found a very solid hiking group. The name of the group is simple “Maryland Hikers”, super active community. I also see a lot of meet-ups being planned

I got one when I moved this year. Put the signs up (I printed them myself with a hard copy of the permit)... it rained and some fell off. Went to the police station to get more. Highly recommend just getting the card stock/poster type they have at the stations. But it didn't matter much in the end. Because by the time the moving truck arrived, someone took down every sign, and we had to unload from the middle of the street anyway. The movers stuck the permit in their window and were fast. Still waiting for the permit bill to come in the mail.

Still, I would do it again. It beats getting fined if some busybody Karen type calls the city on you. At least you will have done your part, and Karen will have to just stay mad.

Looks like someone linked recent discussions on hikes.

I like my Danner Inquire Chukka boots. They're kinda boring and basic, but get the job done. I second REI for whatever shoes you get, I have a very neutral foot though, so get whatever works for you. I go back and forth between the one in Timonium and the one in Columbia... too bad there isn't one in the city itself.

Please get one. I live on a wide street and got lucky that we found parking right in front and we had a very small truck. Recently someone didn’t get a permit and it was an absolute clusterfuck on our street. Awful. I was stressed just looking at it from my window. If you are using movers they will get the brunt of the stress and screaming from people.

If you’re able to secure the spot with vehicles beforehand and swap with the truck I don’t see why not. However, if it means obstructing the roadway for an extended period then no. Also, the movers will want/expect to be in front of the home not down or across the street

  • The center of the staircase in Preston Gardens Park, at the intersection of Saint Paul and Pleasant.
  • The base of the monument of Lafayette, facing the southern end of Charles, in Mount Vernon.
  • Lake Roland dam/pumping station, or that boardwalk between the light rail station and Lake Roland Park.
  • The view of the Baltimore skyline as you drive north on 95, I dunno, starting around the Washington Blvd exit?
