Perhaps you should lobby to have better working conditions in your job as well. The US really fucks over its workforce, and it's a uniquely American thing to respond to that by trying to erode employment benefits for others that have it better than you instead of advocating for better benefits for more people.

I think that's about right. Does the bill provide for them to get a full pension? I haven't seen it and all the articles say they are "eligible" for a pension, which I guess I assumed meant that they are vested and would get something based on their years of service. If they get a full pension after 8 years, that is definitely bull.

That’s a fair point, but correct me if I’m wrong, if you leave after 10 years you are vested and will receive a small pension, but won’t get paid that pension until you’re 65. To receive a full pension, with immediate payments, you may have to work 30 years. Whereas, in the instance of city council members, they are going to receive their full pension after 8 years of service and will receive it immediately, rather than only after turning 65 years old. That equates to decades more of payout to these council members when compared to other government employees. It doesn’t seem sustainable.

Yep, agreed on JBGB. I was hoping for top tier pizza given their pricing, but it's just... medium.

Probably referring to Middle Branch Park. Probably not that dangerous now, but definitely not hiking. It’s like a paved sidewalk. Nice walk; decent chance your car gets broken into; not hiking nor especially scenic.

These buildings were gifted to the church, so they were essentially free. The church has no incentive to repair the buildings, rather, they can now have a large outdoor space for a pretty low cost.
The request to raze these buildings should be denied. Instead, the church can sell them and use the $ to improve its own building or pad its savings account. Or perform more Christian outreach to whatever community it seeks to serve.
TL:DR - the church doesn’t care about these buildings bc it didn’t pay for them. Make church sell buildings to somebody with $ who does care.

Maybe, or maybe only already wealthy individuals who wanted to used the position to further empower and enrich themselves would take it.
But probably not.

Baltimore City paramedics and firefighters must work for 25 years to receive their full pension. I worked for the state of Maryland and needed 15 years to qualify for early retirement benefit, which is less than the full benefit.

Well the only party here in the article claiming they are 'dilapidated' is the parry that wants to tear them down for redevelopment. If that's all the proof you require to believe it.... wanna buy a bridge, trust me bro?

Almost all of the hiking throughout the area will be beginner-friendly. Lake Roland has parking and only a couple trails- you can just start walking and turn around when you want. You can walk around Druid Hill; there are paved and unpaved trails there, so a good mix for beginners - parking throughout the park or recommend the end of Parkdale Ave. Wyman Park has a little easy trail- street parking. Out of the city, Loch Raven and Patapsco have tons of trails that are beginner friendly while offering strenuous climbs or distances. I like starting at the parking area off Dulaney Valley rd just west of the bridge at Loch Raven. For Patapsco, recommend parking on Rolling Road in Catonsville (basically opposite the park and ride at the end of 195).
I couldn’t tell you trail names but I recommend just trying different routes and seeing what you like, rather than trying to stick to a particular trail. Just make sure you have a map or AllTrails or something. OnTheGoMap works well too.
Recommend REI for boots. Try a bunch on, get some input from staff etc.

> This is a Greek Orthodox Church, with a specific focus on that specific community.
True.
> They have no more specific obligation to “serve” people located nearby
Not true. They actually do, ethically speaking, just not legally. (ETA: meaning their obligation is due to the religion to which they belong, not due to any contract or state or federal laws.) And they do - there’s a “Loaves and Fishes” program that makes food for local soup kitchens and shelters, pre-pandemic we had an active food and clothes bank running from the church itself that’s starting to get back on its feet, Weekend Backpacks delivered to city schools with cereal and canned goods to send home with city students who are food insecure, AA meetings in the church to serve the immediate area, leftover furniture from the annual flea market fundraiser donated to organizations to furnish homes for low income renters… not to mention straight monetary donations to local non-religious organizations. Like I get people on reddit are generally anti-religious, but there are a lot of assumptions in this thread that are entirely off-base from the actual reality.
