What’s the per house cost on this? I’m curious how it stacks up against my block that was done maybe 18 months ago. Which was something like 40 houses, lights didn’t cross the street sidewalks done separately, maybe $120 a house if I remember correctly.

>That fall, Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan was standing at a fenced-off site affixed with Boring signs near Fort Meade and telling a videographer to “get ready” for a high-speed train from Baltimore to Washington. Mr. Hogan declined to comment.

>An aide to Mr. Hogan toured a parking-lot test site at the company’s then-headquarters near Los Angeles International Airport, getting a look at a tunnel-boring machine the company purchased secondhand. Boring named it Godot, the title character in Samuel Beckett’s play about a man who never shows up.

>The Republican Hogan administration sped up the bureaucratic process for Boring, granting a conditional permit in October 2017 and an environmental permit a few months later.

>All Boring had to do was bring its machine and start digging, former Maryland officials said. But months, and then years, passed. Maryland was waiting for Godot.

>Boring deleted the Maryland project from its website last year.

🤦🤦🤦 Larry and friends getting duped when it was staring them right in the face.

>Police charged Joseph Bartenfelder for hunting wetland or upland game birds “with the aid of bait or on or over any baited area,” which carries a minimum $500 fine and a maximum of $1500 for a first offense. Lauren Moses, public information officer for Natural Resources Police, could not say whether this was Bartenfelder’s first charge.

Get a simple battery kill switch. This will save you lots of headache.

Typically on newer cars, there is always some feature drawing power. Or if you have accessories, like anything Bluetooth or app connected, that will also draw power. If you don’t start the car for a few days to a week, the battery will die.

So, if you don’t run the car for more that a few days at a time, invest a kill switch. If you’re really handy, you can wire/mount it hidden in the cab so you don’t have to pop the hood everytime you start it.

It’s also a good anti theft deterrent as a crook is not going to take more than 3-5min to try and start your car.

Once batteries die, they might not be the same again. Sealed batteries will need to be replaced if they don’t hold a charge, unsealed batteries have a cap you can open to add battery acid if it’s low.

Most households on my block were happy to pay upfront by either venmo or check. There was one household where I wrote up a little contract for them and allowed them to pay after the lights were installed. They ended up paying by venmo beforehand because the cost wasn't worth the trouble of continued back and forth for them. I think the fact that most neighbors could correspond on our block's facebook group and everyone knows my particular address helped to add a level of comfort.

With that many houses/people, it might be best to offer them options as in Venmo, Zelle, or cash/check (depending on the cost.) I know about every month I hear of another money transfer app and some people like my mom just don’t trust any of them.

Idk if you’re doing this through any kind of HOA or anything, but it might be best if people pay into an account that’s not anyones personal account. Or if not find another trustworthy neighbor people can also pay if they aren’t comfortable paying you.

But for keeping track, I’d suggest something like a google spreadsheet with house numbers and colored boxes. Simple and understandable.

Had to deal with this stuff at an old job bidding on copier/printer service for the city. IT Director and Technician Managers were both black & Sales Manager was an asian dude. HR was run by a woman so company leadership was very diverse. They still had to find and subcontract 25% of the contract because the owner was a white guy. That's 25% of your contract that is now unprofitable (or worse you're taking a loss on it). Jacks up contract prices for everyone and 25% of your devices now have 3 layers to go through if you have an issue.

I'm fine giving an edge to under-privileged people but awarding contracts based on who the owner of a company is seems a little backwards to me. Give them a tax break based on business type/location or based on their parents income or something.

Up to you and your feet. Show companies make their own that tend to be solid. Stay away from Dr Scholl’s. They’re the shittiest quality in my experience.

But mostly having them there is more important than having perfect ones.

We got all 40 houses to say yes and 32 of those willing to donate. If one didn't say yes tbh I'm not sure what we'd do. One person was on the fence because she thought the poles would block our already narrow sidewalk and we showed her how skinny they were so she agreed.

To add to the other comment I'd write up a little contract. Doesn't need to be long or professional just something that says x will pay y and if z happens x gets y back etc.

No reason to start a conflict with neighbors over something trivial because of a misunderstanding.

It sure if your mechanically inclined or have a buddy that can help out.

Take out the battery , go to your local auto zone , advance , orielys that can charge the battery.

Once charged install it back but do not connect the terminals only until street cleaning comes connect it and park on the other side. then disconnect and repeat to prevent battery from getting drained
