I have been denied volunteerships as well! I’ve also had to deny volunteers after they’ve applied to non-profits I’ve ran. Training someone requires bodies and labor. The more volunteers the more capacity you need to train them. It sounds like you don’t know a lot about non-profits or training?

I’m glad you found an organization that had an opening, please don’t be discouraged by the lack of response from other organizations. I don’t believe the organizations you contacted meant to offend you by not taking you on as a volunteer.

I volunteer part-time, year round for an organization that offers physical and drug rehabilitation. Year end is the time when many people with mandatory community service requirements and court-ordered volunteer hours try to get all their hours in. This is also the holiday time when companies want to schedule do-good days for their employees. It takes staff to coordinate and train all these volunteers. For most non profits the type of volunteer who is only available for one day, or for a few hours at the end of the year isn’t worth the amount of staff hours it takes to do background checks, match schedules and train that volunteer.

Moveable Feast is a large organization, started by the city health department director. They have a large budget and staff to handle volunteers. Please don’t think the smaller nonprofits specifically exclude you, many simply don’t have the staff to manage volunteers. I wish you an enjoyable time with the food service.

hmm...so why when i offer to volunteer, the guy said no? if i truly needed help and had zero funding and help, i would at least reply and be like 'lets set up time to discuss'. i guess they are working 80hr weeks and doing 10 peoples jobs, so cant afford another 20 min to sign up a volunteer. To your point, for those who didnt respond, ok your case stands. but for the guy to take time to email me back and be deny me....but whatever. point taken. thanks for your input

When I lived over there I paid 165 a month for parking in the bottom of my apartment building. In another apartment building in downtown, I paid 80 a month (A pre-covid special, that only went up to 135 or 145 I think? Cannot recall). Before that, I paid 204 a month at Saint Paul Plaza. I think the city posts the rates on their site. And the other private places tend to, too. Shop around, use Google maps to visualize the area, and you should find something.

I used to get Zipcars at 810 N Charles, for example: that has monthly parking iirc. It's a surface lot. I think the company is PMI, not sure.

As someone who has run a non-profit, you have incorrectly identified the issue. Many community based non-profits or agencies lack the funding and resources to structure their own paid programming, let alone volunteer programming. It takes people and time and energy to respond to people and coordinate volunteer programs. It’s the opposite of not needing help.

The WG wings from Wiley’s are really good. Their “house” sauce is the standard Buffalo/BBQ hybrid type deal that for whatever reason seems to be the house sauce at like 3/4 of the bars that have one, but they do it better than most.
