Keep in mind, my opinion and pretty much everyone else's opinions here are extremely biased and will always be shaped by how we came about to reading these books and how we related to the narratives and artistic techniques presented by the author, some classics might be loved by one reader and others might be hated by another, regardless all opinions are valid here.

That being said, either through personal choice or through school, each of us has been exposed to classical literature, and oftentimes we have a wide range of reactions to them. For me, I've catched up to multiple classics and I feel like there were many that lived up to the acclaim they received, but there are also many that didn't for me as well.

Regardless, I still believe that even the classics that I didn't like after reading them, I still am thankful of the fact that I took the time out or that my teachers at least introduced me to works that are considered influential on a cultural scale and that I can at least form an independent opinion on works that I now have a claim to have read at least.

Classics that lived up to the hype for me: East of Eden, Stoner, The Bell Jar, The Plague, Norwegian Wood, Pale Fire, Brave New World, Slaughterhouse Five, Blood Meridian

Classics that didn't live up to the hype for me: The House on Mango Street, To Kill a Mockingbird, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, 1984, Madame Bovary, Old Goriot, Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde, Rendezvous with the Rama

What about you all?
