If you had to pinpoint one reason why you read, what would it be?

For me, it all boils down to escapism. There is no other form of art/media - music, television, movies, etc. - where I can completely move into a different reality and forget my current one. There’s nothing else that gives me the sensation of fully separating from myself. Certainly I enjoy a lot of drama and action and conflict, but if a book has no plot yet can make me lose track of all my surroundings then I will still love it.

One survey I saw said that people read for: escapism (me!), intellectual enrichment, to be challenged, to have a quiet hobby, entertainment value, etc.
