In past years, I've always made reading goals along the lines of surpassing the number of books that I read the previous year. I realized though that this incentivizes sticking with books I'm not enjoying (if I'm hating a book that I'm already halfway through, I feel like I should just finish it so that it goes towards my book count). For me, this mentality can take the joy out of reading. For this reason, this year I'm focusing my goals on things that are less quantity related.
I'd like to:
- Reread a book that I read a long time ago and see if it hits differently
- Read a classic (I inherited my late grandfather's book collection, and I'd like to read one of his copies. He left notes in the pages, so reading one would almost be like a way to read the book with him)
- Read a book from a genre I normally never read
I'd love to get other ideas for goals that aren't tied to quantity. I'm mainly just looking to broaden my horizons a bit. But if anything ends up being a slog, I'll just move on. This is supposed to be for fun, after all 😀
