I am 23 years old and quite frankly my oral communicative skills is inherently bad. English has always been my main language choice throughout the duration of my life. Here are a examples of how I struggle to communicate verbally:
- I constantly experience brain fog during mid sentence, and forget the word or words I am about to say. Sometimes I'd spend as long as 30 seconds trying to find a word or it's substitute whilst the other person is facing me
- I find myself repeating the same words and sentences over. I've noticed this alot in my recent work team meetings
- I struggle to express my thoughts and ideas into coherent words/sentences
- I struggle to keep a conversation going because I do not know how to go about in formulating a genuine/meaning response, especially if it's about a topic I am not well versed in.
- My choices of words when speaking are usually very basic or bland. I struggle to implement big sophisticated words into my sentences Oddly enough I don't experience the same issue (or atleast not as bad) when communicating over text/email
I've read alot of reddit posts about how reading is the core basis in enhancing one's communicative skills.
If that is the case, can i read any book or is there a particular genre that I should seek? I am fond of fiction and fantasy novels.
Would you prefer I take up reading articles and PHDs over books/novels
Is there a particular piece of literature that you would recommend to me?
Aside from reading, is there any other advice or recommendations that you would suggest to me?
Thanks all :)
