Okay. Well sorry if I was rude. This book really spoke to me, from the viewpoints of Valjean, and all the others. I liked it because it seemed real to me. Really spoke to me. Not to mention the beauty of French language the book was originally written in. Which I recommend you picking up a copy to read, if you haven't already done so.
I liked it because it felt real to me. I cried when the main characters died, and laughed at their jokes. Actually I've found French comedy films on dvd are so much better than their English counterparts. And I like how they call the United Kingdom Le Royaume Uni. It has such a nice ring to it. We can't all like the same stuff. Keep it civil.

Why would you think that. I read LOTR so I can educate myself on how to be a Hobbit. Isn't that what everyone does?

I use this site as much as possible instead of Amazon. The prices are not as low as Amazon (because, Amazon) but it's seriously just as convenient, and I love supporting local stores. I'll do this for gifts as well, when I send books to niblings for birthdays/Christmas. And you can preorder stuff too! I've ordered new stuff from Penguin Random House through Bookshop and it generally comes within a day or two of the release date.

Alice was originally written specifically for children that the author knew, and much of the humor in the book is absurdist / designed to be funny and nonsensical, as well as specific inside references only the girls and their family would understand. There’s a few editions annotated with explanations of the jokes and it makes it much more enjoyable to read, IMO

Almost everything I read is for enjoyment, even non-fiction. I ready a lot of history, behavioral science, and true crime. None of that really helps me personally or professionally.
I think reading should be primarily for entertainment. Anything you learn is generally secondary.

I only read for enjoyment, both fiction and non-fiction.

I'm a huge fan of Hugo. Loved Les Miserables! However, in my opinion, his best book is The Man Who Laughs. If you haven't read it yet, I absolutely recommend it.

Does Fairy Tale by Stephen King pick up? Just finished chapter 19. I feel like the book has kinda been a slow burn. But King is known for having some great endings. I’m just shocked there’s still 250 pages left. Tease me a bit Reddit, does it start to pick up?

Yes. You are the only person on the planet who reads fiction for enjoyment. In fact, you’re the first person in human history to do so. You’re a revolutionary!

Deeper meaning is drugs are bad. Also funny, and entertaining, but bad.

I'm sorry if the message was unclear. I did read the book through. Still think it was a mess.

Uh what? Why on earth would you think you’re the only one who reads for enjoyment…. People can read for enjoyment and still take issue with the plot. What a weird take.

This is one of the main reasons why I want to get more into fiction in 2023. I’m such a nonfiction nerd, but it is mentally exhausting because it’s so much educational/serious stuff. Idk what it is, but I have such a hard time getting into fiction. We’ll see if that changes in 2023.

Yes I also of the mind that whoever put some of these stories together didn't see a time when killing the people that you called your own because they're not in the best of moods, walking through the desert and all. Kinda looks bad. Just saying. And he does some more dick moves. But in the New Testament he's mostly silent or not so smitey. What gives.

This is my favorite sci-fi book of all time, which is high praise indeed given how much I love Dune. But LeGuin is a sublime genius and Left Hand is the pinnacle of her work IMO.

Read at least one book I already own and one book from the 1000 books to read before you die/grow up lists each month.
