Make sure to also check if your local store has a website. Im able to order directly from my local store and they call me when my book is ready to pick up. They will also do local shipping but I find it nice to head out and pick it up in person.

It’s an absolute fundamental part of modernist literature. Not exaggerating when I say that book changed my worldview

Take a look at UK’s xigxag too, no monthly credits either.

Diane Kruger is beautiful, the script is bad.

This is one of my favorite books. I am sad that most Americans are ignorant about how the U.S. was the bad guy throughout Central America during the banana republic era.

But diane Kruger was great in that movie.

Most indies ship even if they don't have an online store. It means calling or emailing them instead of just clicking around but like if you ask directly then they also might tell you they have a used copy, or that the book releases in paperback soon or other useful things

I was on bookshop’s site the other day & it directed me to libro’s site for the purchase. If you didn’t know, libro isn’t much better to creators than amzn/audible & they also promote the monthly credit system.

Reply to Ursula K. Le Guin's "The Left Hand of Darkness", fourth novel of the Hainish Cycle. by i-the-muso-1968
Anthropological sci-fi as I describe it and Ursula K. Le Guin is one of my favorites. One of the few books I’ve teared up while reading. And don’t forget she invented the Ansible. I recently reread A Wizard of Earthsea and still loved it after decades.

I heard a story about this (I think on NPR? not sure) a couple years ago. Suburu identified lesbians as a market that no one was tapping, so they specifically marketed to them. It was something that the community noticed and rewarded. I'm not familiar with the book, so I can't answer that part of the question. I know that as someone who was not part of that target market, I had no idea. But after hearing the story on the news, I get a good chuckle every day when I see my extremely conservative/religious/anti-LGBTQ neighbor pull up in her Suburu.

You would have to make a new post in the other sub and copy paste what you wrote here in there. Or if you are posting in our Weekly Recommendation thread you would copy/paste into a comment. Reddit does not have the ability to 'move' threads.

I was coming here to say this. Charles Dodgson was a maths professor who was probably in love with his 12 year old neighbour, Alice, for whom he wrote the stories. The whole nonsense of things changing sizes and stuff was thought to be a bit of piss-taking at some of the "wild new math theories" happening. But also, yeah....sorta inappropriate feelings to young Alice, probably.
That being said, it's one of my all-time favourite books and I'm a big believer in just enjoying it for what it is - a fun, wild, silly adventure.

I didn't see what the hype was. I didn't think it was bad, but the praise everyone gives it seems somewhat undeserving, to the point that I didn't bother to read any of her other works.

Sabian.org has wonderful commentary that gives a deeper understanding of the lessons in Alice in Wonderland. It’s a fantastic read.

Reply to My Year of Rest and Relaxation by Ottessa Moshfegh by Ryleebirdee
This is one of my all-time favorites but I absolutely recognize it's not for everyone. I love Moshfegh's darkly hilarious insight into a pathological mind. I felt a thrill of delight on the very first page that never let up. I love all her books that are in this same vein; I actually disliked Lapvona because it had a shifting perspective and never really buried you inside a single character's insanity.
