Reply to comment by DifficultCharacter17 in I read the books Little Women, Little Men and Jo's Boys and here is my opinion and what did you think of these books? by Magister_Xehanort
I agree, as a child, I was so disappointed when Jo doesn't marry Laurie, but as an adult, I can immediately see that Laurie and Jo would never work and Jo deserves better. That said, I think I would have been happier with her not getting married at all instead of marrying the mansplaining professor who's anti thrillers but I know that Alcott was forced >!to give each girl a marriage/death ending!<.

I might have to read Turn of the Key, I wasn't impressed by the synopsis, but I can get it at the library lol

I can't resist a good Oxford-set story but Hannah was unbearable. The only good thing I have to say about her is that at least the baby was in her body (and therefore unable to be a character) unlike the baby in the Lying Game. I generally like Lucy Foley better than Ruth Ware - although I did enjoy Turn of the Key. The main lead female character is slightly less pathetic.

I’m doing several:
The We Didn’t Start the Fire Challenge from @erraticelle on IG
Taylor Swift’s Midnights on StoryGraph
12 Books from 12 Friends
Around the Year

I thoroughly enjoyed it! It was a “slow paced” thriller, and I liked the switches between the past and the present. I was caught up a lot in wondering where it was all going that I didn’t necessarily pick the ending, but I loved how it was right there in front of you the whole time.

I really really disliked this book. The woman in Cabin 10 by her is a great novel. I could NOT put that one down.

Yeah, I think that sums it up pretty well.

I liked BookishPrincess until her under the breath political comments. She advocated Jordan Peterson and commented that she'd be willing to join Parler.

He comes off as inauthentic - trying hard to be the cool guy. At least that's my 2 cents.

My goal in 2022 was to simply read the books I got for Christmas. I ended up reading just over 20 books throughout the year.
My goal for 2023 is 50 books, and as of this comment, I have read 8 books so far this year.

Well it depends on the type of stories you like.... One book I loved was the Mageborn traitor but then again I am fantasy and sci Fi kinda guy....
Dragon lance has lots good female characters and male characters that are pretty interesting....

Hi there. Your post would be better asked in our Simple Questions thread. It helps us keep the main subreddit focused around broader discussion rather topics which only apply to an individual. Thank you!

I’m pretty sure the one I read wasn’t “rewritten” for children, nor does the cover look familiar. But thank you very much for your response and help!

Yes, if something is illustrated it means there are pictures. But there can be illustrated editions of the full text or than can be children’s/abridged illustrated editions.
I had a children’s illustrated Moby Dick when I was in 3rd or 4th grade and didn’t realize it wasn’t the “real” Moby Dick until I went back to it in high school. It was this one. It seems like there is a Frankenstein in the same collection, I’ll bet that’s what you read as a kid

After read Mary Shelly’s Frankenstein it’s definitely a different narrative than the one I read. The one I read was an adult novel tho :)) but thanks!

Probably a dumb question, but does the “illustrated” imply pictures?

No I definitely got it from the adults English section (the English section was rather small, as we don’t have English as a primary language). I have no doubt that it was from there. But thanks for confirming there definitely is multiple versions!

Yeah that’s how Mary Shelly’s version is written. Hence why I asked if there were multiple versions of the Frankenstein story lol. Thanks tho

I got it because so many people raved about it… I didn’t even make it half way thru before I returned to the library.
