I agree, as a child, I was so disappointed when Jo doesn't marry Laurie, but as an adult, I can immediately see that Laurie and Jo would never work and Jo deserves better. That said, I think I would have been happier with her not getting married at all instead of marrying the mansplaining professor who's anti thrillers but I know that Alcott was forced >!to give each girl a marriage/death ending!<.

I can't resist a good Oxford-set story but Hannah was unbearable. The only good thing I have to say about her is that at least the baby was in her body (and therefore unable to be a character) unlike the baby in the Lying Game. I generally like Lucy Foley better than Ruth Ware - although I did enjoy Turn of the Key. The main lead female character is slightly less pathetic.

My goal in 2022 was to simply read the books I got for Christmas. I ended up reading just over 20 books throughout the year.

My goal for 2023 is 50 books, and as of this comment, I have read 8 books so far this year.

Hi there. Your post would be better asked in our Simple Questions thread. It helps us keep the main subreddit focused around broader discussion rather topics which only apply to an individual. Thank you!

Yes, if something is illustrated it means there are pictures. But there can be illustrated editions of the full text or than can be children’s/abridged illustrated editions.

I had a children’s illustrated Moby Dick when I was in 3rd or 4th grade and didn’t realize it wasn’t the “real” Moby Dick until I went back to it in high school. It was this one. It seems like there is a Frankenstein in the same collection, I’ll bet that’s what you read as a kid

No I definitely got it from the adults English section (the English section was rather small, as we don’t have English as a primary language). I have no doubt that it was from there. But thanks for confirming there definitely is multiple versions!
